    Short Story The conflict

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by Writelipus, Dec 15, 2021.

How valuable is the conflict in short story/flash fiction?
    Thanks!

It’s just as valuable and necessary as it is in novels. Flash/short story conflicts may be on a much smaller scale or less overt than a novel plot but is still a key tent pole for most stories. There may be some overlap with essays and poetry, where it’s common to explore an idea or emotion instead of telling a narrative, but most flash you see in say, magazines, and almost all short stories are of the narrative sort.

I'm not sure there's much story there without conflict.
