I can only speak for myself, but I think it might be helpful if @Viserion would set the stage a bit more thoroughly and provide some story direction before either player begins. Otherwise our characters will be forced to interact without the urgency of a plot, which can be a challenge in terms of making interesting/memorable posts. If @EFMingo disagrees that's fine. I'll just let him post first then and follow his lead.
If the third spot is still open, I might join? I see there's an old Freeholder and a mature Young Dragon... I guess a young Sphinx would round things out? Still in his teens, headstrong, not really ready for his position. Excellent bloodlines, the very best education, rides a promising but still quite small young dragon, and is prone to fainting spells and obsessive-compulsive behaviour due to being the product of rather too much inbreeding.
Yes, write up a character sheet and submit it here or directly to at @Viserion for review. Also, @Viserion , I echo the point of @Bone2pick . If you put in some detail and some characters floating around to your initial post, we could have a good amount to work with on our initial posts. Sorry, I've just been horrendously busy this week, otherwise I would have gotten back sooner.
@Viserion: Name: Lucaelarys Galmaereon Gender: Male Faction: Sphinx Relationships: Lucaelarys has no living close relatives, but is supported by some of his House's life-long servants. Foremost among them are his champion Yraemarr and the bloodmage and wisewoman Haehra. Yraemarr is a greying old veterans that have started slowing down a bit but is still tough as old leather and wily as a jackal. He is torn between his loyalty to House Galmaereon and his disappointment in serving Lucaelarys, who was always the runt of the litter; while he would die rather than to leave his post, he is prone to snapping at his young lord when Lucaelarys fails to act like Yraemarr thinks a strong Valyrian noble ought to. He carries the House's remaining Valyrian steel sword, Sunflare. Haehra is the keeper of the House's occult mysteries and a long-time advisor of uncertain age. She brought Lucaelarys into this world and has been responsible for most of his education. While her loyalty should be beyond all doubt, sometimes Lucaelarys gets the feeling that she's playing her own long and subtle game, and that she has a plan in mind for him that he might not care for. Appearance: A short, slightly built young man with fine silver hair and a thin, whispy silver beard. His eyes are violet and have a feverish gleam to them, and he develops nervous twitches when things are going badly. Personality: Lucaelarys feels the weight of the world on his narrow shoulders, and is testy and high-strung because of it. He had been ready to spend his life reading much, socialising little, and maybe flying on the occasional patrol or to burn down a bandit's nest from time to time. Instead, he's now expected to take command, something that does not at all agree with his delicate constitution. He tries to cover up his insecurity with bluster, and constantly worries that he's missing a plot against him or failing to command the respect that is owed to his House. These days, he is only happy when he can take to the air on dragonback and leave all his problems far below for a time. Possessions: Lucaelarys normally goes dressed in finery in the House's colours of purple and silver, though he dons well-fitted scalemail armour and a fierce dragon's-head helmet when going into battle. He does not usually carry a sword but instead wields a pair of long dragon's-bone daggers for preference. While the fortunes of House Galmaereon have waned recently, it is still comfortably wealthy, with a well-supplied army, prosperous lands and an ancestral keep with high walls, an impressive library of scrolls and tablets, and a (admittedly now almost empty) dragon's roost. It also has one remaining sword of Valyrian steel, Sunflare, though Lucaelarys has entrusted it to his champion Yraemarr since he himself lacks the skill at swordsmanship to do it justice. Aside from Bryghtscale, House Galmaereon has no dragons close to ready for riding, but it does possess two unnamed spawn three and five years of age. It also has another few eggs that have not yet hatched. Lucaelarys has not yet decided what he wants to do with any of them; his pride rankles at the idea of giving them away to secure alliances or fealties, but he also knows that it will be many years before any child he might have is ready to claim a dragon and in the meantime the House's immediate survival has to be seen to. Age: 16 Skills: Educated, Handsome, Well-Connected Faults: Sickly, Nervous, Inexperienced History: Lucaelarys was never meant to rule. A sickly younger child whose birth claimed his mother's life, he was brought up as an afterthought and a distraction, given an education in the half-hearted intention of perhaps finding some minor, mostly-ceremonial position in the government for him as he got older. While he was diligent in his studies and performed adequately on the training field, no one expected him to amount to more than a footnote in the history of his House. Then disaster struck. Lucaelarys' father Jaeharadys and his older brother and sister, along with their dragons, perished in a storm at sea after returning from a visit to the colonies. Last of the line, Lucaelarys was propelled into the position of ruling lord. House Galmaereon is down but not out. While its rivals have wasted no time in infringing on its interests while its leadership is reeling, it still possesses wealth, fighting men, one young but battle-ready dragon, and a name that is respected among the older, more traditional Houses. Its future depends on how well Lucaelarys can rise to his unexpected challenge. His mettle must be proven on the battlefield and in the council chamber; he must make an advantageous marriage that secures the House's interests; his dragon must be mated, and her eggs secured; and anyone who makes a grab for Galmaereon lands or honours must have their hand burned. Depending on his success, House Galmaereon might remain a power in Valyria for centuries yet, or he might rule as its last lord before it is ripped apart by younger and more vibrant families. Dragon: Name: Bryghtscale Primary Color: Green Secondary Color: Silver Fire Color: White Personality: Bryghtscale is high-strung, spirited and a bit flighty. She will be coiled up basking in the sun one moment only to suddenly wake up and fly in a panic some hundred paces away, then settle down again as if nothing happened. She takes a liking to some people and strain at her chains whenever she hears them coming, eager to have her scales stroked, but she can also turn inconsolable for no apparent reason and go off her feed for days. She has a close bond with her rider and obeys his command without fail, and he spoils her with the very finest cooked beef and bucketfuls of fried chicken. History: The youngest of the Galmaereon dragons, Bryghtscale was unclaimed until Lucaelarys, then only five years of age, woke crying from a nightmare and, for no reason that he can now recall, wandered up to the roost at the top of the castle. The servants found him and the dragonspawn curled up together in the morning, both sleeping soundly. Since that day, the two were all but inseparable. One year ago, when he first got news of his family's death and his own unwanted ascension, Lucaelarys ordered Bryghtscale saddled and himself strapped to her back. He was heard saying, "whether we be ready or no, sweet girl, it seems we must fly or fall." With that, he command the young dragon to carry him into the sky for the first time, proving that House Galmaereon could still field a dragon rider. Age: 21 Advantages: Bryghtscale is SWIFT in the air, easily outpacing dragons with twice her wingspan. She is FIERCE in her loyalty to Lucaelarys and will not hesitate to take any risks on his command. However, on the ground, she is quite TAME, even sweet-natured, and can be easily entrusted to servants without fear that she'll try to eat them. Disadvantages: Like her master, Bryghtscale is YOUNG and SMALL, her eager spirit prone to getting her into trouble that her still-growing frame might not be able to survive. Lucaelarys also insists on keeping her STABLED and chained down when not riding her, afraid that she'll fly off and get herself hurt; this has the ironic downside that she's vulnerable to attacks from his enemies when she can't take to the air.
Approved! Btw, I’ve added some characters to interact with. Just strike up a conversation, and I’ll get the story rolling.
