they probably do waffles at the little chef on the A50... admittedly an 'after party' in Stoke is probably a kebab, a fight in the street and a night in the cells
In my hometown, if you were put in the cells overnight, the cops were required to provide breakfast, but considering they didn't have the means to make it at the station, it usually turned out to be a McDonald's breakfast combo from down the street. Still not too shabby, if you're into that kind of thing.
What to take to work for my breaks is becoming a real pain in the arse. I began sensibly, making carefully constructed sandwiches each night before bed. But I quickly tired of this and began to deeply resent the process. So I went for the obvious of 'Just add boiling water' products, but found that by the time they were cool enough to eat, my breaks were all but over. I soon realised my lunch had to meet a certain criteria; tasty, cheap, would last out the week (in terms of use by dates) and require no preparation. So, for the last three weeks or so I've been taking wraps, pots of sandwich filler and two packets of crisps/chips, which I prepare at break times. They meet all the criteria but I'm now bored of these also. I'm not looking for ideas (although feel free to suggest some), but how much easier would life be if we didn't have to eat??
Onigiri rice balls are popular, the key is to cook the rice and chuck it in the fridge overnight. Day-old (or more) is structurally better. You can stuff the middle with things like canned tuna, potted meat, pickled plums etc. I know this'll go Debate Room fast, but there are also those "liquid diet" things like Soylent and Huel. I used to drink Carnation Instant Breakfast in the morning (fortified chocolate milk powder, basically). Green smoothies in a thermos (spinach leaves, ice, soy milk, peanut butter, protein powder maybe, chucked in the blender) are pretty good.
I have considered this concept. Though I don't think the science community would like the proposal of creating the first human that exists by means of photosynthesis.
Fruit, either fresh or tinned was my go to when I was driving. Though we had breaks, we didn't always get to take advantage of them if things got busy so I'd frequently top off with an apple or something during the day. You don't even have to wash bananas, just be careful about how you eat them or Kevin from the third floor, you know, the one with the always too tight shirt, might get some ideas.
Haha... too bad. Soups and pasta sauces. Make em in bulk, portion, freeze, remove and thaw the night before as necessary.
@Iain Aschendale - you clearly missed the last part of my criteria, namely 'requires no preparation'. @The Dapper Hooligan - fruit won't cut the mustard, I'm afraid. My job is moderately active and I get hungry. @Homer Potvin - I could buy the soups to avoid the dreaded preparation, but I'm not keen on either of those foods.
Then eat your sandwich and like it! Soggy bread... mmmmm! Dry lettuce... yummers! Funky mayo and salty processed meat... more, please! Close the restaurants! Dismantle all the ovens! We're all sandwich all the time! #sandwichslut
Jerky and nuts are easy and don't have to be refrigerated, also good for protien. Trail mix could work too, and you can get it spicy, or with M&Ms in it. That is all I can think of at the moment.
Just eat more! One banana is roughly 90 calories per 100g. A Hot Pocket is about 250, What do you think's going to fill you up more, one hot pocket or 3 bananas? If you're worried about time, you don't even have to bother chewing. Just relax your throat, remember to breath through your nose, and make eye contact when appropriate.
What's awkward? The fact @The Dapper Hooligan expects me to perform deep-throat fellatio on a banana... at work and in front of all my colleagues?
Well in my warped little mind, I am trying to figure out how one makes eye contact with a banana... Also I don't like the texture of bananas.
There's always the lazy option: don't bother making wraps with your sandwich filler, just eat it with a fork. Sometimes, when I'm in a hurry, I eat cocktail sausages or similar. (Or there are pre-packed sandwiches, of course.)
Why do they have canned sandwiches? I think most things that come from a can are questionable at the best of times, but I suppose where there is a will there is some wack-a-loon that will find a way to can it. People come up with some weird shit. (sigh)
That's a big fail on the 'cheap' part of my criteria. I decided to try a whole week buying my lunch from shops/supermarkets when break time neared. It cost me a bloody fortune.
I don't expect anything. It's just a option, if you're not comfortable with that, that's perfectly reasonable. I wouldn't want you to feel forced into anything especially when it involves something being forced into you.
Oh, yeah, I forgot that. I don't really understand what's cheap and what's expensive yet, though. (Which is probably something I should learn pretty quickly.)
Whoops, yeah, I did sorry. Was fighting insomnia and shot right past that bit. Okay, stick with the liquid meals, very little prep there, just pour and stir.
1 jar of peanut butter 1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips Mix half of each into two containers Two tablespoons of this ambrosia will bring the dead back to life, or keep the living going all day. It's the one-two punch. Chocolate brings you to your happy place. Before the sugar drop, the protein kicks in like a supercharger. Good any time of day or night. I'm having some right now (I use almond butter and Dove darks).
I’m seriously tempted by that one @Some Guy but I’ve no idea what chocolate chips are, semi sweet or full sweet.
