    The Good Ole Iggy Button

Discussion in 'Debate Room' started by Garball, Mar 11, 2014.

I really don't understand why one person would choose to ignore another user. Even the most annoying asshole occasionally has something positive to contribute. I would know, I've been one of those people. However, in the debate room especially, I have seen other people ignore others for attacking or strongly disagreeing with their opinions. Isn't that how we hone not only our debating skills, but our writing skills as well; to be able to write such a compelling argument that the other person might actually question their own beliefs, or at least see from a different perspective?

I guess I am too worried about missing something new to risk not seeing it. What's your take?

I don't have anyone on ignore, but I can see why some people would choose to ignore others. I don't think it's because these people have opposing viewpoints; rather, it's the fact that one of the members completely ignores or misrepresents the other person's argument. This is only a minor annoyance when done a few times, but when it's done over and over again I can see why some people would resort to the ignore button.

I don't have anyone on ignore either. I don't really see the point.

I don't have anyone on ignore, because if I did I couldn't accept their entries for the contest if they wanted to enter.

I had someone on ignore for all of 5 minutes until I realized that if I didn't debate with them, who would?

I did ignore one person. @Lewdog never really added to the conversation. On a side note, we should start a flash fiction competition.

There was a monkey riding a dog avatar a few months ago I thought was obnoxious, but one day he said something surprisingly smart.

Sorry you didn't get very many responses to this thread. It's probably because most of the people on the forum have us on ignore.

I don't use an ignore button, app, or widget. If someone is not worth dealing with, I ignore him or her the old-fashioned way. Life's too short to waste on conflict junkies. Simple as that.

Does that involve rolling/TP'ing their house?

Ignoring someone doesn't punish them enough! What we need is some king of global mute.

When the time comes I can't simply not read or not reply, I should probably get off the forum.

What @thirdwind said. I'm a busy person, if I read any and all verbal diarrhoea that comes my way, I'd never get anything done. I give everyone a chance, several in fact, even if I can see straight away where it'll end up. But if all I see is that they are talking at me, not to me, there comes a point when I simply ignore them. Using a button or the oldfashioned way. It's a feeling as nice as exiting a brawling pub. Ah the silence, the harmony, normal people. Happy... Happy...

You aren't. Have you felt the need to let everyone know you aren't replying to someone specific? Besides in this post, that is.

Why would anyone need to know who you had on ignore? Seems like Jr High behavior to me.

That's a very sexist comment BTW. Would you ever make such a comment if the two debaters were the same gender? What's with the sexual hangup of people in this forum?
