I'm okay. When you get to my age, life becomes a lot more routine. Most of my days are pretty similar. In some ways, I admire young guys like you, whose lives are still in a big state of flux - new jobs, new homes, new states to live in, school, friends, girl/boyfriends, etc. Lots happens in your early twenties! Rest assured, though, that thirty years on, things won't be as exciting for you as they are right now.
For that matter, we might see the Second Coming of Christ. I'm not expecting any of these things to happen in the next thirty years. I've been burned before. Remember when we were supposed to all have flying cars by now? Or humanoid robots cleaning our houses for us? We haven't put a human being on the moon since 1972, and I thought there'd be a couple of well-staffed permanent bases, or even a colony, there by now. Remember that big movie from 1968 about sending a manned mission to Jupiter to solve the mystery of a big black monolith? That movie was supposed to happen in 2001. This is 2015. Measles, polio, whooping cough, etc. were all eradicated, but they're making a comeback because of human ignorance as we take giant steps back into the darker past. The Internet came along, and that's fine, except all it seems to do is chain people to their computers and "devices" to watch porn and cat videos. Oh, yeah - selfies. I hate selfies. The future I was promised has not come to pass. We still have more wars than we can handle. Peace is a pipe dream. As Pete Townshend once put it, "Whatever happened to all that lovely hippie shit?" By now, we were all supposed to be immortals living free in Paradise. Hah! This was supposed to be a Golden Age, but it's a far cry from one. I'll shut up now. After all, this is the Happiness Thread, right?
....... ....................... ............................... Well I, for one, am happy about the porn and the cat videos.
Well, I'm glad you're okay, that's for sure. And hey, we can be sure, few exciting things happen in our lives unless we get involved. ha ha. That would be interesting.
Woo! Got a job interview coming up in a week! In a place where I want to work! Words cannot express the joy I feel now!!
Just finished up two major projects, including my comissioned narrative. My reward: I get to add another celtic knot tattoo to the collection on my spine. This time it's a triskele.
Spent an amazing week in Greece, which made my happy (except for the coming home part- although missed my smelly dogs) but also got engaged.
My baby's almost a year old..... exited for now that he can walk more and soon being able to play with him more and watch him grow....
So you know that guy that broke my heart this past semester? Well, in some twist of cosmic karma, he got in major trouble in the last few weeks of the semester. He was supposed to be an RA in the dorms next year - and the RA process is a really intensive one. So many people want in, and you have to make it past a few rounds of interviews, plus have a certain GPA. If you get it, you're pretty good, and he got it. Except apparently - and I learned this from mutual friends - he was drinking in the dorms (either in public, not in his room, or during quiet hours, where I think the RAs are able to go into your room without invitation), and he lost the RA position. Not only that, but losing it means that he's now taking a gap year, because apparently he was counting on the free housing/food and the monthly stipend RAs get. So while I have two jobs, an apartment, school and a car, he's at home, not graduating on time like he should be, because he was stupid enough to lose an opportunity. Sounds petty, I know, but this was my first heartbreak, so I think it's okay.
That's amazing, both Greece and your engagement, congrats! Greece is beautiful. I've only been to Rhodes and Crete, and I must say, I liked the latter better. Both are touristy, but Crete is perhaps a little bit less so and the mountains there are just breath-taking.
Thank you we were in Rhodes and some parts are very much designed as a tourist trap!! Luckily we were off the beaten track for most of it and the holiday season hadn't kicked off properly. We were warned to stay away from Lindos in August!
Haha, I've been to Lindos in July! It was... crowded. Me and my mom took some local bus there, which was an experience in and of itself.
