I truly missed the sweat and dirt and grime of hard work and heavy labor. Today was all that, with climbing up on high boxes, and winching thousands of kilograms, and getting covered in sawdust and splinters. Had to wear lab coats and all kinds of mop gear while doing it too, so I was extra heated up. Haven't felt like this since I worked on jets. It was definitely a needed break from the cool calm of lonely microscopy troubleshooting. I miss getting soaked in jet fuel, and the dry heat of exhaust. I miss the scorch of blacktop a thousand meters long in the Okinawan sun. I miss collective understanding of hundred people working a flight line in screaming silence. A little hard work today with some others made me feel that again.
The whole "four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie" thing sounds a lot gorier than it actually is. It probably refers to a trend that, IIRC, began with the Romans and went in and out of fashion until the eighteenth century. At large and flashy feasts, a common party trick was to have their cook make a large pie crust as well as an ordinary pie. The pie was then put in the crust and a bunch of birds (anything from blackbirds to doves if you're feeling fancy) would be sealed in there with it. When the pie was cut open, all the birds would fly out, to the delight of the guests. The ordinary pie would then be served. So don't worry about those blackbirds. (I don't think the kittens quite fit the requirements.)
Homer is fired up! One of the busiest Saturdays of the year and the joint is booked, over booked, and booked some more!!! #beastmodepsychotime!
Well, that's quite an unexpected combination of two of the Forum Daily Five.. For the love of God, please do.
I always like when it gets so busy that it's just a crazy event. I think everything runs so much smoother and becomes more fun with all the chaos because of the general consensus of "fuck it, make it work." Some of my favorite days are my busiest.
Yeah, that was a crazy event. Holy shit. We're practically carrying each other from point A to point B now.
Yeah, but now you have the memory of making it through it with everyone there. Sounds like a good time for a work meeting at the bar. We always do that on the company dime too.
"Colonel's buying the beer at the end of the hump!" And he did, three or four kegs. Had one with us, then took his leave and let us get shitty.
I'm up and working the Graveyard shift...Yippee...That's my sarcasm. At least it is my 'Friday' and I'm trying to not procrastinate with the words but not succeeding at all.
I will admit that is the plus about night shift, I love my people I work with and there is so much less BS at night to deal with to.
Yep, it's definitely worth it if your a night owl, and if the job is okay. Can sneak some study in too sometimes.
Most definitely, that is when I do most of my writing and plotting. I have way less interruptions and distractions.
Sadly last night I did not get any words down but that is okay, it was my end of week. I hope your night went good.
It happens. I've been building up the portfolio the last few days so no writing for me either. Lots of beta reading and editing though.
