Went to the Post Office today because I suspected my letter needed more postage. The clerk weighed, said yes it did, then pulled out a 15 cent stamp she said was her own, and stuck it on, no charge. Just a nice little pleasant surprise.
I think I just finished draft one of my novel. Man, I was starting to think I would never get there. Now the real work begins. I have been editing along the way at points so it's not a disaster, but I imagine it will still be quite a lot of work. It's on the short side at the moment, but knowing myself it will grow quite a bit as I work my way through it. That only took forever. How many forevers does it take to actually finish a novel?
Aww oh well. Thanks for giving me an excuse to make a Shakespearean sonnet. Now I can check that off my list.
A friend told me today he was talking with a coworker who subscribes to a publication I was in over a year ago. He told her he had a friend (me) who had a short story published by them. When he told her the title of my short story she totally remembered it and said it was a good one. I know strangers read my published stuff, but I don't often hear how the outside world views my work once it's out there. And given the time that's gone by, it's pretty cool to hear that my story was something that stuck with her. She's not even a writer. She just likes reading. Anyway, it was nice to hear. Made my day.
Leonard Cohen's new album is out. Debating whether to buy it as a download and have it right away or order the physical CD and get it in a month with the international shipping and all.
Thanks. I know this publication has a big circulation. It's still my biggest sale to date. And I still wonder how I got published by them. But I feel like, Wow! I wrote something that people read and remembered and then (thanks to a friend at least this time) have conversations about. My friend's coworker said she's been reading this publication for years and my story was one of her favorites. I wrote a story that is one of someone's favorites. That blows my mind.
