I just found a set of taps and dies that go from M1 (1mm) all the way up to... dunno, my world tops out at M4. And only a little over $30 bucks. Mwahahahahaha, the things I can make with this, CAD, and 3d printing....
There is a restaurant chain called Happy Joe's which is opening a franchise in Cascade after the first of the year. I texted the news to a friend. "We're getting a Happy Hoe's!" Typos and the English language is an amazing thing.
I have, on occasion while texting, accidentally left out the 'r' in "shirt". Never fails. "Im totally buying that shirt" turned into a very uncharacteristic "im totally buying that shit" But the the most hilarious typo ive heard was my director telling me that when she was hired, she wrote her very first memo to the board about how best to include the "pubic"
My air conditioner stopped working on the hottest day I've seen around San Diego in years the day before yesterday, 116F. Then when someone came to fix it, it randomly started working, so they blamed misuse of the thermostat as the reason for it switching off and to fan only. Then it shut off an hour later and didn't come back on again and the house was boiling. As soon as I called the HVAC guys back again, they refused to come because they were booked until Monday. And every other company was booked through Tuesday. The heat is supposed to stay too. Why is this in the happy thread? Well, because I told those guys they can fuck right off and decided to learn how the central air and heating system works on my own, then troubleshoot it. After hours of research, I finally got a grasp on it. I cleaned the vented sides, which were horrendous, and then started power troubleshooting. Found the contactor plunger wasn't going in, so the coil wasn't getting energized. Discovered that was a whole thermostat circuit and and broke that all down until I figured out my condensate pump motor and seized and back flowed water for who knows how long into my heater. Drained the heater and replaced the pump, and slept in nice cool air. Only cost about $70 and a half a day work. Now I can fix and troubleshoot AC issues. A hell of a lot cheaper and more reliable than AC guys, same as had come out earlier in the year to "fix" my system for the same thing. Not wasting that money again. So basically, I'm happy because I can now work on AC/heater systems and I can save a lot of money on parts and labor. And because I'm in an air conditioned house when it's over a hundred outside yet again, same as the whole month has been. If you have AC issues, feel free to ask. I spent way too much time tearing apart that system to reserve the usefulness only for myself!
I shocked myself pretty bad twice in a row while replacing the standby switch on my tube amplifier...it was plugged in which was probably really (really really) stupid. I fixed the switch though.
I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. It was 45 degrees C out and my study aircon started spewing hot air. I tried getting a technician only to be told they could attend within a month, possibly longer, for a $400 call out fee. In desperation, I put my rusty electrical sleuthing to the test with a multimeter. It turned out to be a blown condenser (capacitor). A trip to Jaycar (electronics components), $15 and we were back in business. Cool!
A bike ride around the lakes for lunch and ice cream on the way home. 78 miles, I wanted to do something this weekend besides work.
Got the yard worked on this last weekend and it felt good to get dirty. Looking forward to this coming weekend for when I'll do more work and hopefully get the last of the big ass bushes cut down from in front of my house.
@RMBROWN, no harm no foul but we generally don't like big nekkid linkies that go to points unknown, so I screenshotted your page and edited it into your post.
It was a really pretty trip around the lake, one of those perfect days weather wise. Everyone was out on the water. The temps were fine and traffic reasonable for a holiday weekend. A great time to think, no phone no interruptions.
It was 57 degrees (14c) in Central Texas this morning. It actually feels like fall!! *does a silly giddy happy dance*
It was 43 this morning near the Panhandle. We had a hell of a cold front come through the day before yesterday. It's only supposed to get up to 59 today, and I'm loving it.
It's going to get down to the mid-70s (23c) in the middle of the night here!!!! Spoiler But it's still forecast for 88f (31c) tomorrow...
That's all great everyone. I return to 100 F again tomorrow as it's been for the last two months with the fun and adventure of baking in the desert. Blessed be the day the weather cools.
I dunno if this is "happiness", but today, I got to (virtually) meet the author of a game programming book that was my bible 30-odd years ago. It's kind of embarrassing that I *still* haven't learned everything in that book.
I misbehaved tonight. I lied and told my goddaughter her parents shared the log in information so I too can check in on her assignments and grades. Really wish the kiddo wouldn't say WTF so much. Or yell at me.
