Ten years ago, in a casino in Montenegro, a disgruntled Russian politician was approached by two executive members of an organisation called J’Lida. He is offered a proposition he can’t refuse – a sum of twenty billion dollars in untraceable funds, scattered over the world, in exchange for a small operation that J’Lida want carried out. Present Day. When a Russian plane carrying polish diplomats goes down in Smolensk*, British agent Mark Webb** is sent to investigate. He soon uncovers that Europe has been seeded with lethal nuclear devices, with much more dangerous weapons placed in major cities in the United States. Along with that, a seemingly non-existent cargo ship is floating in the middle of the Atlantic, and no-one knows why. Discovering that it is all a lethal plot, he goes about trying to stop it, but doesn’t realise until the very end, that whilst all the Russians were trying to do was neutralise America, and let it basically walk right into western Europe, ignoring NATO and the allied armies, since there would be no American cavalry. What J’Lida have planned, is for the Russians to do what they want, but let the East and West go into massive war with each other. And war means weapons, guns, artillery. And that means money. Basically, J’Lida plans to fund both the countries with weapons through two seemingly unconnected and untraceable companies, whilst all the money actually went to them. The story would be filled with twists, and I would build in clues at every corner. *Yes, It is exactly what happened last week. And this event would be based on it ** May Change
I'm a bit confused as to what your main plot is. J'Lida want a huge war because that means money? How exactly do they think that a war on this scale will make money for them? We've yet to see anyone get seriously rich out of the Middle East fiasco(s). I know that a classic war situation made some people rich, but this scenario is not that. And, I have to suspend belief massively to see a war happening this way. Why only the one British agent sent to investigate? What about all the other intelligence agencies, and something so important is left to one guy? On the other hand, it would be a great James Bond script...
A story concept means nothing. I can tell you now, it has been done before. What matters is how you write it, the characterization, the flow, the imagery, all of it. There's no benefit in asking what other people think of the concept! They'll either say,"Sounds great," or, "it sounds like a ripoff of..." If the idea stirs you, write it. Then ask people what they think of the final story. After they tell you what they don't like about it, revise it, usually several times, until you're happy with it or until you throw up your hands and say the hell with it. Please read this thread about What is Plot Creation and Development? Many writers take their inspiration from current events. The TV series Law and Order has practically built itself upon headline-inspired stories. Have at it! But don't bother looking for opinions on plot summaries. Develop it, write it, and only then get reactions to the finished piece.
ditto both posts above... most of that sounds nonsensical to me, but no one can tell how good or bad an idea for a story is... the only thing that can be judged is a completed work...
