I agree that it is a novelty that has made quite a foundation for itself. But it will fade out as a fad in another few years, due to the fact that its gimmick hasn't really seeped into the music scene to cement itself. Though I do listen to music regularly in German and Russian, just to see what else is out there and broaden my selection with diversity, instead of just sticking to English and limiting the broader spectrum. But it is quite nice to be able to sing along with some songs. Then again it is also fun to find things that are purely instrumental pieces, made in various genres for that more innovative creativity for just pure audio pleasure.
Yeah, I can't see BabyMetal lasting much longer either. I think they'll keep their following in Japan at least until the girls grow up and don't want to do it anymore, just because Japan has a bunch of these kinda fusion-girlbands that have a big following. But I can't see them staying big in the west past that. I have some music in German; although I never really went out to find it specifically I just liked the bands. Rammstein are all in German, and I can sing along with them no problems But there's also bands like Eisbrecher who are German too, and And One do some tracks in their native tongue as well. For me I do really want to be able to sing along with a song; I don't mind that it's another language as such, but for me the vocals are always the important part of it more so than anything else. I've always been more of a singer than a guitarist (I actually have a talent for it) so I kinda gravitate to stuff I can sing along with. German makes that a bit harder but I'll make the effort sometimes, but I definitely don't go out looking for it.
@LostThePlot Eisebrecher is a good one. Though I like to seek out the other languages though. Till Lindeman from Rammstein, has his own side project called Lindeman, and it is different.
Babymetal did a show with Judas Priest. They sound all right until you hear Rob Halford crank up his engines, and then... yeah. However, if you can find some of their longer work that focuses on the band, those are some incredibly talented metal musicians. The girls are nothing special, JPop never is, but the guys behind them are pretty damn good. Quick search, The Kami Band:
Oh indeed, no argument from me that the band is really good. I mean, they are the ones that write the riffs and perform live too. Can't say they haven't got some serious chops. It's just the Sailor Moon front trio that I think will run out of steam And yeah, Judas Priest live is fucking awesome. I saw them with Megadeth and Testament and it was a great fucking night. Only slightly soured by that being the last time I saw my previous ex. Still, well worth seeing and I was happy to have seen them before one of them keels over
Most of the music I like doesn't have very distinguishable genres. Wardruna, Arcana, Peter Bjargo would be the three main 'bands'. Essentially anything dark, ambient or neo-classical.
Oooh another industrial fan I shall respond in the only way I know how: Edit - Ignore the pictures, I can't find anything close to an official video *facepalms*
