I haven't used a heater in years. Down jacket or sleeping bag if its too cold. But that isn't often.

When i was much younger I lived in a poorly insulated flat with night storage heaters that i couldn't afford to use. I spent every hour i was at home pretty much in a British army sleeping bag with sleeves, and a bottom that unzipped so that I could shuffle around to make tea or food

I keep the kerosene outside, and the heater sitting in an inoperable fireplace hearth. I cant build a fire, but the flue is still good.

Our place isn’t insulated either. The house was built in 1924; before they really accepted the idea of stuffing something in the walls to retain heat.

Oh man, I almost got one like that, called a tactical sleeping bag, and wish I had. I've resorted to hopping and clumsily shuffle-lurching at times while still in the bag.

I miss my woodstove when I lived in New Hampshire. 80 degrees in side, -20 outside. Never had to turn the heat on. Stacking and hauling 6 cords a year notwithstanding.

Someone's going to die tonight on the street. Cold, alone, and hungry. There will be no funeral, no remembrance. Just a morgue if they're lucky, and rats if they're not.

I submitted a short story to an online magazine in February. It was accepted in April. It was a not paying gig but a reputable (or so I thought) online magazine with traction and readers so I was excited. I worked with the editor to smooth it out in May and was told that the story was scheduled to appear in December. December arrived and it was not included. Confused, I emailed the editor to see if it had been pushed back to another month or something else came up. Nothing. Two weeks later, I followed up about it again. Still nothing.

This feeling is 10000% worse than any rejection I've gotten.

Apparently someone was following too close and when I had to stop suddenly, bam. Everyone is ok, thank the gods. I am done with 2021. Get me off this trial run. Now.

On a related note, I need to make sure this doesn’t make me afraid of driving cars.

When you search for 3-seater sofas and get page after page of these. I wouldn't mind but the descriptions for each actually says '3-seater'. How in the name of all that is shit is this a 3-seater????

It’s just occurred it may have been construed the above irritation was directed at you, @Iain Aschendale. It wasn’t, just at the shitness of everything.

rather like tents - where a three man sleeps two unless you like playing sardines, you probably need to go up one, if you search four seater sofas there are lots that clearly seat three in comfort ... this is apparently a large 4 seater...

Madness. I just want something long enough for me to veg in front of the tv after work and fall into my regular diabetic coma after tea.

The furnace is out AGAIN. This time it’s something with the gas valve in the furnace, and a $650-800 estimate to fix. This would put us up to about $1500 invested in staying warm just this winter, and almost half way to a the price of a new furnace. We’re shopping.
