She especially deserved to be memorialized on this site because of her masterly songwriting. "Love At The Five And Dime," "Listen To The Radio," and "It's Just Another Morning Here," to name just three out of a whole repertoire. It's high poetry.
Great songs. Also, Late Night Grand Hotel. So many others, as you say. If wishes were changes, there’d be no goodbyes.
Comedian Sean Lock, from cancer. I think this is my first post to this thread, 99% of the time I’ve not even heard of the people mentioned here. I wasn’t a huge fan, as I don’t like modern comedy, but I’ll admit to having a good laugh at him on occasion. I’m posting because it came as such a surprise more than anything. I didn’t even know he was ill.
I had tuned in to Eight Out of Ten Cats Does Countdown the night before and saw him on it. Couldn’t believe the news when I heard it the next day. He wasn’t even really that old. RIP. Spoiler
I'm red/green colorblind and astigmatic as all hell, I'd need a full on body reassignment in the bardo to even think about it.
Tom T. Hall passed away yesterday. One of America's most prolific songwriters, and a guy I think I channel sometimes in my own songwriting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_T._Hall
Brian Travers lost his fight with brain cancer Sunday. Another great sax player gone. It’s a shame he spent most of his career with UB40; I always felt he was kind of held back, and never really allowed to fully demonstrate the range of his skills. A lot like Springsteen did to Clarence Clemons.
Charlie Watts won’t be finishing the Rolling Stones’ seventeenth farewell tour. Kieth Richards will be bringing Steve Jordan to fill in for Charlie.
Oh man, somebody somewhere had just posted a picture of them with him the only one looking like a man of a certain age.
Charlie Watts. Certainly the end of an era. The Stones have been going on for so long, they felt indestructible. Sadly, not. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to finish the tour, but I wonder if they'll finally retire now. RIP, Charlie. By all accounts, a really good guy and a legendary rocker. Scary how many folks from my generation have died of smoking-related illnesses. Damn. We should have known better, shouldn't we? Our parents' generation didn't realise smoking was bad for you, but we did. I have never touched a cigarette in my life, but my dad died of emphysema, and I know so many people of my own generation who have succumbed to lung cancer, COPD, throat and mouth cancer, emphysema, arteriosclerosis, you name it. I really REALLY hope younger people take note. This habit will kill you—or make your later life a real misery—unless you are very very lucky.
And somehow Keith Richards continues to breathe. Probably the last century's crowning achievement in medical science.
I was a heavy smoker for 14 or 15 years, finally kicked the habit maybe 3 years ago, with only an occasional relapse cigarette since then. Haven't had one in about 6-8 months, and I don't intend to smoke any ever again. Quitting is the best decision I ever made. I didn't realize how bad a shape I was in until I started getting better. Now I feel fantastic by comparison. I can only imagine, with some regret, how great things would be if I never touched the stuff... Oh well, live and learn. I seem to have been really lucky in suffering minimal harm from the shite.
Keep in mind once you quit smoking your health risks will go down, but they don’t go away. Stay on top of those check-ups so you can catch things early.
