Robbie Knievel passed away aged 60. Robbie Knievel, daredevil son of Evel Knievel, dies at 60 (msn.com)
Cancer and not hit mid-air by a monster truck that was doing a criss-cross jump over [REDACTED]'s ego. Ah well, he earned his place in entertainment Valhalla aside his father.
It has been a busy week. Add Robbie Bachman (Bachman Turner Overdrive) to the list. https://nypost.com/2023/01/13/bachman-turner-overdrives-robbie-bachman-dead-at-69/
95!! That's to be celebrated!! It's tragic when someone dies young and with their potential unfulfilled, but when they've had a long and celebrated career and live to a ripe old age, there's no better way to go. Robbie Bachman @ 69, that's a bit more on the borderline, but I think any rock star would be proud to go out at sixty-nine. Ok, that's a little callous and maybe he wasn't that kind of rock star. That would be Ted Nugent or anybody in Kiss. But honestly for a rock star, that's a ripe old age! I think I'll celebrate them both tonight. I'm lifting the glass a few times in honor of MLK, and I'll add them both to the festivities. Thank you all for brightening our lives the way you did! And congratualtions for making it as far through this vale of tears as you did!
Though maybe it's wrong to celebrate so soon. Maybe a respectful silence is a better option for a few weeks. Still I'm celebrating Martin Luther King, despite the tragedy of his death. He accomplished much and showed us all how to live.
Yes, it could. And it would not be complete without Leo Kottke. Such masterful technique, and a musical style that's immediately identifiable. I've seen him in concert many times, and there's no studio trickery involved (although he does use a distortion pedal, which he once called "the Nauseator"). Kottke has been described as the guitarist that other guitarists listen to when they want to know what the guitar is really capable of. Put Tommy Emmanuel in there, too, although his musicianship seems to be mostly flash to me. And David Bromberg, both for blues and for the outro to "Mr. Bojangles."
Turns out Carol Baskin didn’t kill her first husband and feed his corpse to tigers after all. I guess this is more of a notable un death, since the man was legally declared dead back in ‘02. Nextlix even made a bunch of money off the conspiracy with the show Tiger King a few years ago. Homeland Security found him living the high life down in Costa Rico some time last year. So she was telling the truth all along, and he’s not dead.
What's it with artists dying too soon this year (2022, actually). First Kim Jung Gi from out of nowhere, and now Mariusz Lewandowski, which I heard about late. 62 years isn't enough. If you listen to modern metal then you've seen Mr. Lewandowski's work. It's so righteous that it has no choice but to go on a metal album. He had some great album covers for Psycroptic (one of my favorite bands), Bell Witch (don't like their genre, but it's the coolest cover ever), and the new Obituary (came out a week ago), which is when I noticed that he'd died. Though he never really explained his pictures, I've read pieces in the past that said his grim imagery was formed by living under Russian rule in Poland. It was about the smallness of man in the face of a sinister State. That's why the people are always so tiny, and the architecture is always blocky Soviet edifices. You never the see face of the State. When it appears it's always shrouded. It appears like a dark god. Obituary cover. Awesome. Look at those little guys marching to their doom.
I like the Bell Witch album and have been listening to the new Obituary. Didn't know the artist died. Which Psycroptic did he do? As the Kingdom Drowns?
Yes. As the Kingdom Drowns. This is my favorite track off there. I feel like they found their sound again, or a new sound, which is when they layer in the female chorus and then the shouted vocals sink back in the mix. (Seems like something Devin Townsend would do.) I like their new album lots too (Divine Council). Their best album will always be Scepter of the Ancients though. That's much more my style.
Weellll, sez Carole. She apparently said so in an interview and showed a letter she claimed was from Homeland Security. The man himself has yet to make a statement, preferably holding a current copy of the International Herald Tribune with the front page clearly legible. That whole thing is what we used to call a "full-blown circular goat-fuck" back in the service.
I should have said he was supposedly found alive. He hasn’t made any statements, and nothing has been offered to demonstrate it’s actually him.
First time I ever heard about the original event. Feeding a murder victim to the tigers would've surely stuck in my memory. If he's been hiding out this long, it's unlikely he'd break his own silence in order to help out someone he apparently wanted to both damage and escape from.
Of course, it could also just be an effort to get back to relevant. The last time she was in the news, it landed her a spot on Dancing With the Stars, and a nice little pay day.
A sad loss to the world of music. R. I. P. David Crosby CSN & CSNY were part of my music education during my teenage years.
He famously said nobody did as many drugs as he and lived. I'd say 81 is the normal equivalent of a 120.
Put Anthony Topham on the list. https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/21165025/anthony-topham-dead-yardbirds-guitarist/
We lost another one. Tom Verlaine 73. He and Pattie Smith were married for a while, and share a daughter, Jesse Paris Smith. Jesse posted somewhere that Tom died after ‘a brief illness’.
