I'm surprised not to see a thread about this movie. I can't remember the last time I've been so excited for a movie to be released. I rarely go to the theaters but this will definitely get me in there! This kind of story is my alley. Comes out January 8th!
The most intense movie I have ever seen! And beautifully shot. Everyone needs to see it. Don't recall any finger pointing
A guy thing maybe? My son was surprised when I said it didn't look interesting to me. He obviously wanted to see it.
It would have been interesting to see Daniel Day-Lewis as Hugh Glass but I thought DiCaprio was good Tom Hardy steals the show
Seriously? DiCaprio is actually the only reason I'm remotely interested in this film. He's an excellent actor! What annoys you about him?
He's excellent at being petulant. In that he excels. I don't know, there's just something about him. Like, I would be afraid to meet him in real life because there's something about his face that just makes me want to hit him. Hard. Look at the image of the infamous face-finger that I posted before. There's a smugness there that irks me. Now, Tom Hardy... I would volunteer to be the first man to have a uterus implanted just so I could have his babies.
I haven't read any of the posts, to avoid spoilers, even though I know the story. I'm waiting for the dumbass crowds to die down so I can watch it in peace. But I'm super excited.
I wanted to like Inception, and on first pass I did like it, but it's the kind of film that only works once (for me). A second pass evinced a film that was deeply self-conscious and self-aware. Maybe that was the point. If so, I wasn't a fan of the point.
I watched this last night. It's visually stunning, the acting is amazing (I have to say, I'm relieved to find that this is why Leo has looked like such a hot mess lately), and though there is little dialogue it's still quite riveting. Overall, it's a great film and I expect it to win all kinds of awards. The genre isn't really my first choice usually, but I liked it just the same.
I don't think he looks smug at all. When I was younger, I also shared your desire to wipe smugness off of faces- I suggest you look within yourself.
I agree that on second viewing Inception isn't as enjoyable anymore - the freshness of the idea and the shock factor was part of much of what made it riveting. Better than but still a little like Sixth Sense in that sense. I guess DiCaprio is just one of those actors that irks you. For whatever reason, I'm not keen on Matt Damon. I'm not even sure I've ever seen a film with him as the lead. But there's something slimy about his face... I look at him and I just wanna go ugh...
Well I like all the above. Actors and movies (not seen The Revenant yet though). Tom Hardy - he's the man. I remember watching him many many years ago in a low budget, made for TV movie (can't remember what it was). That was the first time I saw him. I remember my husband saying 'That guy was great. He'll go far' and I was more like 'Nah, didn't like him'. How wrong was I!! Edit: the Winona Ryder comment slipped in before my post. She is not on my 'like' list. Too pouty.
I'm like this with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. And a little towards Anne Hathaway. Apparently I don't like women. Btw, just got out of the theater. This movie is definitely not for the squeamish... which I am. I think my eyes were closed through half of the movie. Riveting though, for sure.
The Amazon reviews of the book are not so hot, a little bit dry they say, or written by dull ambassador - and compared unfavourably to this other book, which I'll maybe, maybe. maybe might buy on pay day. And also they showed the Amy Winehouse film on TV, can you believe, so enjoyed her 'Frank' stuff from back in the day when I was like on her team, Camden me, almost centrifugal force. By B i B I was fringe only, s'pose. Still here, tho.
You may have first met her in the 80's classic, Beetlejuice. She was cute in this film. Her flat affect served well to play a little 80's goth teen. She did some other stuff that I did not see, and then turned up to take a big'ol dump on two period piece films I really wanted to love, The Age of Innocence and Bram Stokers Dracula. To which point I was like, whatever, a girl's gotta' eat, so..... But then, then she showed up in the ALIENS franchise. No. Just no. Ripley does not deal with The Winona. Ripley should have smacked that little robot's head clean off. (Winona played a robot in disguise in this film) And then, like that wasn't enough of a kick in the giblets, she shows up in Star Trek....
I feel the need to revive this thread because Leo finally won his Oscar (and it was about time)! I'm a happy fangirl right now.
