I'm the same. For me, it's to do with my blood sugar getting low. It's called hypoglycemia, which can cause neuroglycopenia (aka hanger). It's what the Snickers adverts (UK) are talking about. Despite knowing this about myself, I still don't eat regularly, or always carry snacks with me.
My wife often complains that I'm very literal. Obviously, I have to be because I'm an engineer. I also tend to be annoyed by people who are significantly dumber than I. I'm no where near as smart as Sheldon is supposed to be, and even I would be infuriated trying to deal with someone like Leonard or even worse Penny. I'm not sure why Sheldon picks on Howard for being less intelligent when Leonard is by a wide margin the dumbest of them. People also tend not to like my views on humanity. I look at us mostly like any other animal. Our minute to minute behavior is advanced, but our overall behavior is barely evolved past chimps. Sex, food, and sleep still dominates our actions, be it indirectly. My wife has been upset at me because I used the same technique to train her nieces and nephews as I did my dog: positive reinforcement with treats and not giving them attention when their bad.
I like to think I know a lot (and I know a fair bit). I'm also incredibly awkward and have no idea when to shut up. How people haven't killed me, I don't know.
