    The tale of Sizzles

Discussion in 'AI Writing Tools' started by Naomasa298, Feb 9, 2023.

Mods, please move this if you deem appropriate, but this is NOT meant to be a Workshop thread.

This is a short story I told ChatGPT to compose, and illustrates why AI has some way to go before it understands context...

Strictly for amusement value. No critiques needed.

    -----

Once upon a time, there was a sausage named Sizzles who lived in a small town. Sizzles was a curious sausage and loved to explore the world around him. One day, while out on a walk, Sizzles stumbled upon a bush that was unlike any other he had ever seen. It was covered in bright red berries, and its leaves were a vibrant green.

Sizzles couldn't resist the temptation of the juicy, sweet berries and took a big bite. To his surprise, the bush came to life and began to talk! Sizzles was amazed and couldn't believe his ears. The bush told Sizzles that it was a magical bush, and that it had been waiting for someone to taste its berries and set it free.

Sizzles was thrilled to have made such a discovery and eagerly asked the bush what it needed. The bush explained that it had been cursed by a wicked witch and that it could only be freed by a kind and brave heart. Sizzles didn't hesitate and offered to help the bush.

Together, Sizzles and the bush set out on an adventure to find the wicked witch. They encountered many challenges along the way, but Sizzles' courage and determination never wavered. Finally, they reached the witch's castle and confronted her. The witch was no match for Sizzles' bravery and kindness, and she was soon defeated.

The bush was finally free, and its leaves and berries shone brighter than ever before. Sizzles was hailed as a hero and was celebrated by the townspeople. The bush was grateful for Sizzles' help and offered to grant him one wish. Sizzles wished for the bush to always be there to remind him of his bravery and kindness, and the bush granted his wish.

From that day on, Sizzles lived a happy life, and the bush remained in the town, a symbol of courage and kindness. Sizzles was proud of his adventure and the friendship he had formed with the magical bush, and he never forgot the importance of bravery and kindness in the world.

Sizzles the "sausage" finds a "bush" and ate the "berries." At least the AI has a sense of humor. Not terribly subtle, but whatever.

Well, the thing is, it doesn't. I just told it to come up with a story about a sausage and a bush.

All the innuendo is entirely in the mind of the reader - the AI doesn't understand that.

And it isn't much of a writer—obviously Sizzles should have got burned in the end!

I won't say what I would have done if I'd written it...

I have no idea what you mean. The idea just came to me while I was staring at a bush shrubbery while nibbling on a sausage my breakfast.

Interesting in that all of the paragraphs are almost the same length. I'm not looking forward to trying to sort out the machine-written essays from the ones my students do themselves in the coming years as that sort of blandly competent writing is exactly what I'm trying to get them to be able to do.

It has all the components that it takes to make a story work... any story

    A hero named Sizzles
    A heroine named the bush
    The evil witch.
Good prevails over evil, a medal for bravery and the respect of the local town people.

This could be the Wizzard of Oz on shrubbery.

I think anyone who was even just a little bit creative could have fleshed this out and sold it as a childern's book. I am sure it is better than some of the cartoons my grandkids watch.

Also, this is what you get when you give chat gpt a simple prompt. You could expand the story where the witch kick's their butt and everyone loses at the end. It is all what you prompt it to do.

That's not really the point of a story about a sausage and a bush...

Lol, I understand, my point is that it would have took you even farther down the rabbit hole without any idea of the context by asking it to expand.
