I'm starting to downsize and have tried selling on Facebook Marketplace. It started out well; I've sold two things, for cash, at a reasonable price. But now I'm plagued with scammers (I think) who keep trying to get me to disclose more info than I want (or should) -- and I'm sure they are scammers because they always say the same things in the same pattern.
I suffer from occasional gout and have a med to alleviate the pain of flareups. I rarely use it but was down to 1 tablet, so I ordered a refill. The usual insurance snafus occurred and I had to wait a few days -- or I could pick it up any time for $418. I waited and ended up paying $3.97. I'm not complaining about my cost -- but I feel for anyone without insurance who needs the medicine. Is there any way this is not simply racket between the manufacturers and insurance companies, i.e. insurance premiums are set high enough to pay inflated prices and people who lack insurance are mostly screwed?
Are you agreeing it is a racket, or disagreeing? My statement was a bit too poorly worded for a yes or no answer.
Maybe I should rename this, "The Crabby Old Man" site. Anyway, our local utility company sent me a letter announcing their new, "more-user friendly" billing and account layout. And all I needed to do was add the number 1 to my old account and voila! Except, of course, that they didn't exactly say how to do it, except that I should do it on December 8. And, again of course, the system apparently crashed because everyone was trying to do it, or, perhaps better phrased, trying to figure out how to to it. So after I spent the better part of an hour on the phone, they simply said, "try again in a few hours or days." So that's time I'll never get back. I'm even more annoyed by the fact that I got so annoyed with them; so much for my attitude of equanimity that I keep trying to establish.
The general background emotional noise of the so-called holiday season, the way ads and sappy shows convey the impression that these are "the most wonderful days of the year," and that the value of human relationships are measured in the quantity and cost of material gifts bought and received; there are very few, if any, real "Hallmark" families, and the world would be better off if we recognized that truth and stop trying to pretend. I'm fine with "putting Christ back in Christmas," but we really ought to lose all the commercial trimmings. IMHO. End of rant.
@GrahamLewis ever notice how all the world’s problems can be solved with a credit card? Socialists want to destroy America? Buy guns and gold. Climate change going to kill everyone? Buy an electric car. Not enough family time? Buy a trip to Disney. Can’t get laid? Buy a Superduty.
That someone could live west of the Mississippi and not know "Superduty" I find somewhat disquieting.
Always happy to challenge perceptions and disquiet folks in western Appalachia. I know what an F250 is, but it doesn't facilitate any desire to sexually accommodate the owner of the same. That being said, I do so accommodate an F250 owner, but I liked him even when he drove a Chevy.
of course not, but that’s not the question. The question is, is the guy desperate enough to try anything? (Other than, you know, talking to a woman)
C.G. Excuse me for my presumptuous and slightly unkind remark. If you met one of my WY friends they would assure you I am totally lacking in social skills.. That I burned chocolate in a pan, the humidly is 80% and the wind chill is 3 degrees outside this breezy ass old farmhouse makes me be a shit when I really shouldn't. I drive a chevy. My conversational skills with nice ladies is not legendary.
A lovely apology, though I didn't think one was necessary. By the way, I may have met one of your Wyoming friends; it's that kind of state. A former governor described Wyoming as a small town with very long streets. Alas, since everyone and her sister have decided they want to live the Wyoming life they see on various television programs, our streets are more crowded than they used to be. Maybe last night's record -42 degrees will convince at least some of them it isn't all Longmire and Kevin Costner on a billion dollar ranch and they'll go back home.
What I want to know is how you're achieving 80% humidity in the Deep Midwinter, with frosty wind making moan and all that. Best we can do here (where the windchill is 0 degrees F) might be around 40%. If we're lucky.
If I call your office and you transfer me to the 'billing department', I shouldn't have to leave a voicemail.
Childish adults. One of my coworkers accidently keft her personal social media open. Another coworker says "ooh, what shall we do with it" and i said to log it out and keep on moving. The coworker decided she wanted to mess around on other coworkers account and then got mad at ME when i got mad at HER for doing that. I mean, dont get me wrong, there is a time and place to be silly (on your own time with your own friends).... I know for a fact that other coworker would NOT find it funny.
I once worked/studied at a site where you had to go through security in and out to make sure you didn’t take any confidential materials, so it was habit to empty your pockets into a tray without thinking. Well someone pulled a prank on another student and slipped a tampon in his jacket pocket. 15 years later and it still makes me smile.
I saw a post of Nextdoor about someone finding that two deer had been shot and left to die on their property, obviously horrific. but then the thread degenerated to people so dismayed that humans are encroaching on animal habitat, and that paradise has been paved, and how shameful it all is. I’m thinking “folks!! YOU are the ones that live there! YOU are the ones who live outside the city. What, you think you’re the only human who gets a house?”
Ah, yes, everybody else is a problem except for me mentality. It annoys me when a person says that humanity is a toxic organism that corrupts everything. Blatantly self-aware, they are?
As a typical male, I am most times not completely accurate when I go blathering around and about. Guys always exaggerate! I checked the national weather service records to be more precise. The actual temp was 5deg., the humidity was 58%, wind was 26mph with 32 mph gusts. Wind chill was -17.5 To put our crappy weather in perspective; the morning before the temp was 46 with 88% humidity and no wind, and had been in the 40's for a week.. So; I was not exactly accurate but it was still bitchy ass weather for an old guy.
I'd be wondering if it was targeted (pun semi-intended). Here in western Pennsylvania, deer season is such a big deal they close the schools on the first day of it. There's not a hunter of my acquaintance who would shoot a deer (let alone two) and not take the meat. Did the property owners where these deer were left to die have enemies? It sounds vindictive, and not merely wasteful.
Most of the north/south interstate through the state is currently posted "closed to light high profile vehicles" due to high sustained winds and 70+ mph gusts. Obviously the drivers of the rigs that blew off the road did not think that applied to their vehicle. I passed one LHPV on the way home this afternoon that gave me a bad moment when it swayed far into my lane with a definite tilt to the trailer.
