These are a cinch to make, you know. I sold a number on Etsy a few years ago but mine were pocket Moleskine-sized. Hold on, though. Are you talking about the refills or the cover?
I have a midori journal, best buy i've ever done. The raw leather back on it is ageing well with all the scruffs and stuff. love it. on a side note, my new weight set has arrived today.
Uhhh... Actually, both. I think you mean the covers when you speak of "cinch". Well, yes, there's not much to them, but they do a very nice job on the simple things.
Yes, the covers, but the ones I was selling came with two Moleskine refills to get you started. I don’t like the Midoris for two reason: 1 the size - or more specifically the ratio - is ugly (too tall for the width). And 2 I think the price is ridiculous for what is essentially a small panel of leather and some elastic.
Maybe some explanation: I bought some of the MD series notebooks. Got them mostly for the paper. Got the DIN A4/5/6 sizes (the A6 was a bit of a misbuy, they tend to make the description a bit confusing, maybe intentional.) They're not actually refills. They come wrapped in waxed, semitransparent, wrinkly paper, folded like a dust cover. They can be, and are advertised, to be used as is, either with the wax paper or without. But they do feel damageable, so they sell covers. They're simple deals, just a double-sized, folded sheet with pockets to slip the stiffer cardboard outer sheets of the actual book in. The cheap ones are plastic or stiff cardboard like paper (though very high quality, smooth paper), but they also make rather expensive leather ones (goat, I think.) Again, a very high smooth quality, but too expensive for me right now. As said, they're simple and could be made by yourself, but I would be quite hard-pressed to get that quality (or spent the time to try, experiment and train myself), since the price is quite OK to me. Of the cheap paper ones, that is. The leather panel/elastic and aspect ratio you described are from the traveler's notebooks... which seems to be a whole different market, in a sense. I do not know how they are sold elsewhere in the world. If you, like me, buy them online in Germany, you typically get them from Japan, from a Japanese dealer. They sell without explicit shipping costs, and can be had for pretty low overall prices (if you accept a couple of weeks shipping time). But the prices fluctuate wildly, from what I observe based on their inventory and the demand they see, and can be ridiculously high. I mean really outrageously high. But if you wait a few days/weeks, prices typically drop to affordable, sometimes more than affordable, levels.
Well I spent a chunk of change. Double pedal 4k camera 32 GB micro SD card No big purchases for a bit I think.
A rubber mallet and a panel of 12" X 12" leather for my leather work. Oh, and a little desktop weather station thing. Gives indoor and outdoor temps, temp trends, time, alarm. It was only £8 from Lidl. I couldn't resist. It's up and running and very good in fact.
Honey graham crackers, bag a marshmallows, bar of Cadburry dark chocolate, and a couple of candles. I have an idea.
I forked out about $500AUD inc postage for an Enlightened Equipment Revelation quilt to replace my old Zpacks one. It's great!
