    Disable gender icon

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by Cosmos, Jan 12, 2010.

Forgive me my ignorance, but how does one disable their gender icon? I have no wish for people to know my gender since it is a privacy issue. I've looked in the CP and saw nothing. Can you please direct me?

If it can be done at all, Daniel will have to do it for you. It used to be possible to sign up without specifying gender, but I don't know it that is still the case.

Send a private message to Daniel with your request.

Thank you for your suggestion; I have done so.

I believe gender is a mandatory field.

queer theory is some thing i know alot about, which includes gender binaries, there are alot of people who do not fit into either of the binary settings, and having a forum signup asking for someone to conform to them could drive them away, maybe it would be a idea to remove it from signup

i don't think keeping all from listing their gender is the solution, since it's often helpful to know if one's addressing a guy or gal, even if only to get the pronoun right and not offend by referring to a 'he' as a 'she' and v/v...

why not just add a 'prefer not to say' option?...

I agree with maia on this. Giving an option would be a good idea.

I agree with having the option "prefer not to say" myself. It's good to know whether a person is male or female when addressing them, but sometimes a person would rather not bring attention to their gender, myself included.
