to move around a place without purpose

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by alpacinoutd, Jul 22, 2020.

    Hello,

I am writing a story. I want to suggest that a lot of people were moving in a shopping mall without a purpose or direction. What verb can I use which has that meaning?

Also, what if I want to suggest that they all move in the lives without purpose or direction? What can I say?

Remember what I said about adverbs though.

What do you think about this?

The mall was buzzing with people meandering around aimlessly. That's all the people of that city seemed to do. Wander around life without purpose to get to nowhere, to achieve nothing.

Hmmm, a meander's slow and lazy... and buzzing I'd attribute to flitting about. They sort of pull at each other.

What say you labour point more effectively? Nounify a verb: The mall was alive with an aimless bustle. City people wandering—seemingly without purpose. < and stop there.

Let's see....amble, mosey, dawdle, saunter, gander, stroll...

    Any of those might work.
