To Outline or Not to Outline

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by Sulla, Sep 14, 2012.

Do you outline before starting a project?

Or do you just start writing?

Personally, I find an outline to be a creative juice killer. If I create an outline I feel like I HAVE to try and adhere to it or connect to the various points of it and then my creative strength is destroyed.

Is there anything for a non-outliner to do to make his/her work less chaotic?

I do feel like my work could be organized better. There are times when I write where I feel like the time wasn't structured. Does that make sense? I feel like some structure might help so I'm not just rambling on.

Is there a middle ground for outlining?

I'm also curious to hear what people do for outlining, if anything.
