3rd person omniscient vs. 3rd person limited

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Terri, Feb 7, 2011.

Ok folks. I know the difference in terms of definition, but my question comes in the form of recognizing it in someone's work.

    The reason I ask...
I read the first scene of someone's WIP. The entire thing was 3rd person limited - the MC's POV. The very last line of the scene throws in the thoughts of a different character altogether.
I assumed it was a POV slip. Who wouldn't?

So, I am wondering - is there any telltale sign of omniscient? Or, are we to figure it out as these POV changes take place within the next scene?
