Thought I would make a thread for story ideas that aren't that common. 1. Society who fears light living on the dark side of a planet, which is now beginning to tilt. 2. A pack of space whales who eats from the atmosphere of gas giants, arriving in a star system on their last fumes, a system without gas giants. 3. Statues turn to life, while all the people disappear, leaving the statues to try and find out what happened and to question their own identities. 4. Male prostitutes who live in a matriarchal society form a strong bond and try to escape their fleshy shackles. 5. A society of transients, who switch sex at a whim as they get bored, after a longer than usual night they find themselves stuck in their current sex. 6. God decides to clone himself. 7. A society living near the end of the universe, the heat death of the universe, living in a giant construct built around a supermassive black hole. Keep them coming!
A story set in the fourth dimension and how it would look like and behave. Example: Ethereal beings simmer in exotic matter and energy (or perhaps 'Manergy') as they traverse the fourth dimension in search of purpose. Hivemind who have conquered the entire universe grows lonely and tries to split its consciousness into several parts. People stuck in computer generated heaven want to become mortal once more. Their struggle to leave the simulation and regain physical bodies.
I’d like the sound of #3 and #4 of the OP. It would be interesting to see someone have a go at one of those ideas. I’ll have a go: 1. Giant size pigeons roam the streets and the little people have to scurry out of their way. 2. Earth decides to rotate the other way around its axis and time begins to go backward. 3. A futuristic world where the seven continents have sunk below water and the world population lives on ships and floating cities. 4. A day in the life of a droplet of water.
Flat earth and flat planets in a weird universe and the story of the civilisations living on them. Vending machines and cash machines start to give free money. Feral bears multiply like rabbits and invade a small Alaskan town. A beautiful utopian world made with intricate art and passion. Where music loved by all is played in the heavens. Everything is colourful. Everybody happy. Except for one.

Story about letters in all languages changing shapes and becoming a completely new but uniform alphabet across the world, in an instant. The reactions of people and governments around the globe. A pandemic starts to spread across the world, but it only affects those who are evil according to the beliefs of their society, and it turns them good. Two soldiers from opposing advanced civilisations gets teleported to a small town on Earth as they're fighting each other, stunning the locals of the town who summons police to investigate.
1. A voyager is marooned on a desert island. Then he discovers a message in a bottle sent out by someone months ago that mirrors his own need to be rescued. What happens next? 2. An ugly dystopian world. Awful, ravished and destroyed. The life and joy sucked out of every creature. No one appreciates beauty, art, culture, music. Everybody’s miserable. Except for one. [see what I did with that one?? ]
A man finds himself suddenly becomes irresistible to kittens. He has to power to control them to do anything, except go away. He is confronted and challenged by a man who is irresistible to puppies. They must fight for control of internet cute, furry animal videos.
Everyone's eyebrows turn into frogs and they all run away to start a civilisation of wealth and glory. Everyone pretends like nothing happened and they go to extraordinary lengths to convince other people that, yes, they do still have eyebrows.
A society that communicates through songs. A civilization of two-headed lizard people whose separate head's have severely different personalities and wants. Alternate reality where Africa and Asia are the leading economies and how they exploit The West. Story about a very rich and successful person losing everything and becoming homeless, with no happy ending. Dreamy world where nothing makes sense. You can walk through walls, but not doors. Windows are used to block the vision of sneaky neighbours by showing them random alternate realities. Money grows on trees, but does not cause inflation, because everyone knows how to be moderate. People do not queue, instead they quizz, the winner gets to go last. Voting picks the best candidate humanity has to offer. Assemblies of people behave well and act smart and intelligent. Belligerent fools gets looked down upon. And if you are very bad, people will stand silently in a circle around you and look at you with neutral faces and say nothing. There are dogs, and they are still cool. A story about a civilization of machines trying to terraform the universe, making it into one large bowl-like structure with green fields, including many other biomes and a sky.
1. A society where everybody walks on their hands and who give odd glances at passers-by who walk on their feet. And throw them out of public places. 2. A hamster who is able to communicate in all languages having travelled to 58 different countries around the world and visited 438 different cities. 3. A call to Earth resounded by an alien civilisation on Venus proving that life on other planets exist. Except their species is under threat and they need to be saved. 4. In a world where trees peacefully and quietly communicate to one another over the seasons, what exactly would they be saying?
An alien civilization makes contact with Earth and arrives to give us technological gifts. They help us improve our society, but something is amiss. People are disappearing in large numbers.
