The James Bond Theme tune was originally written as an Indian song by a man called Monty Norman

You'll never watch a James Bond movie again without thinking about his unlucky sneeze.

    Wow. He really sang that:

"Everybody worry about my sneeze... A-choo!"

Yep... I think they did the right thing by converting the lyrics to a more menacing, single note guitar line.

Grain alcohol removes tree sap from clothes.

Yes, I sat on a stump without looking.

Haha, I thought that as soon as I posted it. I just really wanted to share how dumb I am. Sat there for 10 minutes.

Yeah, you have to wear knock-around clothes for all hiking/woods excursions (though your infamous stump may have been anywhere). My years in the NH White Mountains taught me to not to wear anything I might want to use again after I descended into the tree canopy... sap, shit, pollen, mud. There was no coming back from that. Not that the streets of Providence are any cleaner. I had to clean a giant pile of human poo from the kitchen stoop the other day.

That bad? The woods I've been to haven't been quite so filthy. I guess it depends on what you're doing.

Yes, it's possible to get quite filthy in the woods...

Yeah, but I don't write off my clothes when I go head into the forest. That was the root of my question.

Depends on what you're doing, like you said earlier. If you're doing the New England thing and spending a lot of time hiking, climbing rocks, sitting on stumps, and the like it behooves you to have some hiking clothes set aside so you don't have to worry about dirt. Kind of like painting clothes. Or washing-the-car clothes.

And never mind the mud. Dear God, the mud! It'll swallow your car if you park it in the wrong place, so forget about your shoes and your pants from the ankle down. Assuming you survive the fifty feet of snow that made the mud.

Those two bright things within about 15 degrees of moon in a 10 o'clock direction are Jupiter and Saturn. Can't see much else with the city's light pollution, but those are hard to miss.

John Williams is a famous classical guitarist.

John Williams is a famous film composer and Spielberg collaborator.

I'm aware of the guitarist from various snippets I've seen on the TV, and just assumed he was the Spielberg collaborator.

And (speaking of getting filthy in the woods) back in the days when streaking was a thing, my friend and I wanted to get our streak on, but were too timid to do it in public, so we ran through the woods in nothing but our shoes. At one point we passed within about 20 feet of the edge of civilization, and suddenly heard a girl laugh and shout "Naked as a jaybird!" We kept running and looped back to where our clothes were waiting. Good stupid fun.

On the subject of daft places to sit...

I once sat on a planked wall that was coated in ice. I sat on a carrier bag first, but as the ice melted underneath, the water ran down my legs. So on standing I looked like I'd had an embarrassing accident.

The first breast implant procedure was done in 1962. But I can’t decide if this is really a useless fact.

Yes, French Guiana is a part of France, not an independent state.

According to Baseball Almanac, Babe Ruth's top salary came in 1931 at $80,000. That comes out to $1,349,415.49 today.

There are about 1.5 million DUI arrests in the US every year.

Humans didn’t evolve from apes. We both share a common ancestor but split into separate linages about 8 million years ago.
