I'm torn between a couple of these, which is unusual for me. Generally when I read contest entries, "the one" stands out pretty quickly (unless it gets dethroned later on, but that's rare).

    Will vote soon.

As usual. This is tricky. I always try to convince myself that I am doing a rational selection.

Prompt, how well/smart/clever/funny/good did the story handle it.
Flow, how well does it read (thinking out loud)
Idea, is there some interesting idea.
Efficiency, how much does it affect me.

In the end it’s impossible, you leave it to some abstract mechanism we all have, I pick the one that I think is best.
    --
I teach (on amateur level) on how to take pictures of people.
During the course I tell my students:
“It’s not difficult to take good pictures of people, there are only 4 or 5 things you must think of. The problem is that it’s never the same things.”
    --

This time I voted for (what I have interpreted as) an idea.
I know I will use that idea myself sometime, somewhere, somehow.

There were many good stories it was hard to choose. There were some witty ones, some imaginative ones and some deep real-life , meaningful ones. All of them were very well written. In the end I had to go for the one that I felt was the most imaginative. Creativity one me over :agreed:

Another super close competition. Such good entries. I voted for

Strange Blessings. It's just a touching story and I liked the ending.

Even Aunty Entity wasn't prepared for that sort of situation!

    Sorry, couldn't break it.

It came down to Rag Doll or Last Hand, but I think the concept of "modern society of anthropomorphic nonhumans" is too cliche nowadays.

Pretty much what I had to do.

@Fernando.C - Exactly. It'll be interesting to see if it ends up tied again.

I broke the tie. This is my first time voting (I think) and Zeus-dammit that was tough. Great entries all around.

When did it go back up again? LOL. I broke the tie and then they tied again? And now you broke it? This is definitely a rough one.

Everything is happening the very few last days.

Maybe we could have 3 weeks writing and one week voting?

Wow, I've had a look and there seems to be a very clear lead now. All this action in only one day? Who knows what will happen in the next few hours :D

Seems like a lot of people got coins in the mail from
whoever wrote Rag Doll. That thing has won an inordinate number of tosses.

Wow, there were some good stories in there! I must say, I love this contest :)

    ETA: I was tied between
Rag Doll, The Prison, and Things. Well, (un)fortunately 'Things' hit me in the gut, so there went my choice :p
