I just had to announce this publically, because not everyone reads blogs. I went to a statewide journalism convention on Thursday and Friday with ten other members of both the yearbook and newspaper (I'm on the newspaper). On Thursday there was an opening speech and an on-site writing contest. It wasn't just writing, there was design too, for editors and designers. There were things like News Writing (Me!), Feature Writing, Page Design, Yearbook Cover Design, Copy Editing, Sports Photos, etc. Then on Friday there were roughly 20 hour long sessions (we could choose 4 in all) that we could attend. It varied from Writing to Photos to Design to Editing to Leadership to Broadcasting. There was also an awards ceremony for several different sections. One was for advisors, one was for On-Site competition, and one was for the Harvey awards. There were a few lectures before that, too. I didn't win in my category for the on-site competition, but my friend Timmy, who's on staff with me, did for Feature Writing. The Harvey Awards were for last year's yearbook and last year's paper because, duh, this year's yearbook isn't out yet and the paper only has a few issues under its belt. I wasn't on the staff last year, so I didn't win anything... Our school brought home 26 awards! It was most definately awesome. Yay!!
