    Somewhere far away

Born in what was left of yesterday’s world,
You thought you could come and tell me what was real,
You tried to hide and seek,
Thinking it was okay to delve in make-believe.
    I’ve been here before,
    Where you take your steps so lightly;
I am not the child of yesterday’s war,
    I’ve been here much longer

    Tip toe,
    My being circumvents your desires
    For I tread carefully,
    Where you step so easily
What is it like to live where you are?
20, 000 miles away in a compass direction,
    It makes you think you’re 20, 000 miles high;
    So much higher

    Oh, so much nobler

Due to lack of entries, I've decided I'm going to extend the entry stage another week.

    city morning

bridge tops stretching out from mists and fogs
reaching to heights searching out suns
    twenty thousand miles or more
    at least

heavy moisture blanket as dew carpeting streets
from top to bottom of towers thick gray menacing

candle light defused in the murk of it
sounds of creaking wood wheels muffled
    voices of shouting men muted

    morning has arrived
    or has it

    settling of denseness
    to milky water cream
    cloudless cold sky looks down
blue and the bridge is touched

    morning has arrived
    to my dismay

    Will you fly with me?
    Up into my head,
High enough to taste the stars,
    See the Moon, feel Mars,
You dip your fingers into Fairy pools
And ripple ripples across the sky,
Where cherubs dart from here to there
And Angles sing to the gardens above
That forever flow with the waters of love.

    Will you fly with me?
    Deep into my soul,
    20,000 miles into the sea,
    Where monsters rest
    But never sleep,
    Where the Boogie Man
    And Grendel himself bake pancakes
    Of blueberry, buttermilk, and even,
    Super-duper chocolate chunks.

    Will you fly with me?
    Up into my head
    Where Fairies fly,
    Deep into my soul
    Where Beasties bake,
    And into my heart,
    Where spring's eternal
And the whole world is yours.

Oh won’t you fly with me!

    The Dubai Crash

    Air-con’ed monoliths of able vanity,
these challenging digits of sky-high ambition
point to heaven, their gardens the architect’s image.

Surging updrafts mix with fleshy desire,
angular spines and breast-plates against the elements.
Twenty-thousand eyeless sockets each tell a story.

At its cloud-capp’d peak the ironwork spasms,
junctions resonate and all possible geometries
climax into a primal lightning conductor.

    The engine roared,
    with smoke and flame,
    and in the pit,
    our stomachs remained.

    Our minds wandered,
    from glory to fame,
    the grasp of gravity,
    our engine tamed.

    Anxious were we,
    ascending higher and higher,
    but with a sudden thud,
    we were consumed by fire.

    Our sojourn was ended,
    when noon was nigh,
    into 20,000 pieces,
    20,000 miles high.
