On the downtrodden soils of a dry nation,
where regimental boots stir the dust,
the blood of a people boils, and
the desire to retaliate is a must.

Above the giddying wisps of earth,
in the quiet arms of an old fruit tree,
sit a war-torn man against his ladder -
a man whose thoughts alone run free.

Just beneath their ramparts, they lurch
into action settling scores with kneejerk orders -
reprisals, they say, for sanctions cut deep
    from within heavily-militarised borders.

    Unfreeing himself from ridged branches,
he slips and curses in blind red mist -
silvered scars awakened in an instant,
under the boughs where he and she first kissed.

    Welcome to Reality

    Where friendships mean nothing
unless they get you on top.
Where the work keeps on coming
    and the clock never stops.
    Where good looking people
    cling to your arms,
and your money has made up
    for your lack of charm.
    Where coffee and cigarettes
    become your best friends.
    Your only true savior;
    a means to an end.
    You climb and you climb
    the urban totem pole.
    You'll give everything.
    You'd sell your soul.
    Welcome to a society
    built on a dream
    of power and money
    and material things.

    Up and Down
    by Headroller

    Up and up
    Onward we go
To a goal that no one knows
    To fame and fortune,
    To love and passion,
    To power, perhaps destruction?

    Up we go
    Children growing old
    Nothing to blame,
Though we pretend we don't know
This and that, Tit for tat,
    The mudslinging and anger,
    Is everyone a stranger?

    Climb on up
    Don't be scared
    Thats what the man said,
    In the hot summer fair.
But you can see the fear,
    Uncertain, untethered,
    Unbound from his life.
    Who is scared?

    You made it!
    The unreachable goal,
    Yet a peak unclimbed
    Shadows your soul.
    Don't fret, or regret,
    Just keep plodding along
    Climbing on up
When will the top be gone?

    Down again
    Say so-called friends.
    Jelous and green,
    Words once comforting,
    Now horribly obscene.
    Don't worry your head,
    Your turn will come.
    When will he be done?

    Dragged and pulled,
    Through the muddy streets.
    Betrayal by one,
    By all or by none.
    Chin up, smile,
    Just climb up for awhile,
Don't you want to hold the goal?

    Up and down,
    Over again,
It's the struggle that never ends.
No time for tears, or fear in the dark,
    Just keep on climbing,
    Keep playing your part.

    What is faith?

Is it the strength one finds

after discovering the lies of doubt?

Is it the blunt and fearless point of life?

    You won't know,

    Until you climb your ladder.

Until you stop looking down long enough

    To look up instead

Until you climb without question or explaination.

Seeking faith is the hard part.

Its climbing the ladder that so many fail in their atempts.

So what is faith? Is it reaching the top o that ladder?

No, its courage to go back down.
