Weekly Poetry Contest (129) - Acrostics

Discussion in 'Monthly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Nov 9, 2010.

    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Twenty Nine

    Once again, it poetrifying time!

    The Rules
    • All entries must be on the set theme.
    • Only one entry per member.
    • No editing of entries once posted without my express permission (i.e. PM me and ask).
    • Poems must be titled
    • Poems must be a minimum of seven lines in length
    • Entries must not have previously posted on the forums, and are not permitted to be posted for critique until AFTER the contest is completed.
    • Any violation of these rules will result in disqualification of entries, and possibly infraction.

The entry stage will last six days, meaning it will close on Monday 15th November 2010.

The voting stage will begin immediately, and will be open for three days, ending on Thursday 18th November 2010.

And this week's theme is: Acrostics

An acrostic poem on any theme is acceptable, but I'm keeping the seven line minimum in place, so please make sure you use a word or words longer than seven letters in order to meet the requirements.

The next (130th) contest's theme will be (courtesy of Aszyllin): Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, and it will be opened on 15th November 2010.

Be imaginative, have fun, and get writing.

PS: If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. I don't bite (much).

    Never Forget.

New soldiers, alligned in their rows
everything pristine, all ready for war.
Very few know what lies ahead,
even though their future may be filled with dread.

Running through the explosions, he fell so quickly
forgetting his past, his present, his head hit so hard-
on the ground now, he silently lay- cold and broken,
red seeping into the earth as he headed for the sky
God takes and god gives, and remember him in battle.
Everythings for something, so never forget
that men gave their lives for you, and they never regret.

    Answers are complex. They
    Rest underground.
    Carefully, we sift
    Hoping for pyramids
    And finding rocks,
    Earth, and adobe fragments
    Of our foundations,
    Lost beneath the layers
    Of a history
    Gleaming obsidian and tiny bones
    Yearn to tell

    Oh What A Familiar Feeling

Oh a sweet new wind blows,
    but not one person sees.
Directions change from east to west
stirring a new wave and calming the sea.

    What was once bitter
is now turning into something sweet.
    Insolence modulates overnight
upon the feeling of being complete.

    A new smell arises
from the midst of dead leaves.
A smell so intense, so delicious,
so kind, and entirely too naive.

    Familiar faces cast unseen glances,
glaring at the dawn of the evening.
Our eyes are meeting right on schedule.
    Lungs cope to keep breathing.

    Feeling tips of fingers
    bending the perfect angles within.
    Freckles align, with bones intertwined,
    eyes collide, and life begins.

    We are Merely Players

Oh how the rueful sounds scorch in the air as treachery seeps into play
The Assassins who roam the earth searching for their every prey
Tears that are torn between lovers as they play against one another
The poison of deceit and greed one obtains from every other

Oh the sorrow is ever so practical
This seed of destruction which begins every cycle

I gawk my eyes through this glass wall
While I begin to watch this world fall
    Unable to play
    Manipulated by a witch
    This fray
And an apple which does not enrich
Will cause us fall into an eternal slumber
Where these games will forever plunder

I observe as they play games
I monitor all the destruction that is caused
But I never saw any end with a round of applause

    Slipping in smoothness
    Hobbling hoards,
    Antsy antagonist
    Dripping through doors;
    Openings onto a
    World you might wish;
    Shadowing, trembling,
    tumble and swish.
