Weekly Poetry Contest (166) Voting - Apocalypse How

Discussion in 'Monthly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Oct 17, 2011.

    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Sixty Six

    Time for the democracy part!

And this week's theme was (courtesy of MrMormon): Apocalypse How

Voting will end on Thursday 20th October 2011.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

A boy on the Aldershot train
    plays guitar, townies looking on,
hatred in their spit and brains.

    A mother feeds her crying baby raw liver;
two girlfriends shiver in a hallucinogenic vice,
    razors in their hands.

Twice he jabs that bitch's temple, her pigskin fist
and trembling blade are shining for their slice.

    A 4x4 mounts a birthday trike,
four cans before he held a mic
    and drooled through Suspicious Minds.

The last short straw a sweet heart finds,
one injection for his wasting arm,
    the blinds are closed.

With one breath I could begin a genocide
One hard blow could put aside
    all the fine work done.

He asked for this, his only son.

    Sea Glass
    By chelsiewehde

    Sea glass on the beach
Captured by the waves and brought right to my feet
    As I look through it,
The sea glass reflects all I've ever wanted to see

We are all here for the same purpose,
    though no one knows it

The warmth of the sand on my feet
matches the fire that wallows up inside me

    A loud laugh here
    A whiff of salt there
    Ice cream on his tongue

The worries of life are washed away with the waves
The love that comes from pure freedom abounds
And joy is no longer frowned upon as a luxury,
    but a reality

Your wide smile is no longer out of place in the world,
But you are now accepted here.
    No loneliness
Nothing but giggles and carefree smiles
are found here at the beach

An entry point for different people, changing times.
But peace covers who ever cares to come.

    Old feuds forgotten
    Arguments turned into laughter
    Limbs entwined
    Hot breath mingling together
Hands mixed with strands of hair
    Eyes reflecting the flaming fireworks
    Lips tasting of salt water

The beads of sweat running down our back.
    Perspiration soaked shirts.
    Sticky skin.
    Blistered feet.
Colors so vivid they hurt the eyes.
Skin so scorched it burns a brilliant red

    Endless skies
    Clear oceans
    Pure intentions
    Overwhelming love

An orange Sunrise bursts on the open water
    New Beginnings

    Not a cloud in sight
The Sun high in the sky signals an intense feeling of
    Immortality...everlasting days.

Purple hues capture the sun and pull it back to the sea
A sadness surfaces with the realization that our momentary escape is fading with the light.
Dusk arrives and the air of completion is final
We struggle to say all we put off saying during the day

    Frantic kisses are stolen
As if we are all trying to find another way to breathe
The threat of tomorrow hangs over our heads
We embrace and hold each other tightly, trying to preserve the moment
    Don't end, oh beautiful day

Twilight has come. But love still remains.

    Summer's joy is infectious
    And as life begins again
    Worries resume
    Sea salt dries
And is washed away with the sand

But that breathtaking exhilaration sleeps inside us all
Waiting for the day where it can awaken again

    The Acid Rain
    By Lost_in_Thought

Dear Beloved, lost amoungst the sorrow's.
Dear Beloved, the I feel pain.
    Dear Beloved, My acid rain.

I once believed you were as pure as glacier water.
I once believed that the world shall never end.
That our love would be forever

    But then the rain a'poured
Burning our skin, the truth away.
    Making us blister and cry.

    Wars were fought, never end.
Death to all, we mustn't wait.
    For the sky flashes hate.

I love you, I love you,
    Can't you see.
I would go to the end of the earth for you.

    But the pain too soon,
    Too harsh.
Fry's the emotion from the shallow heart.

Sour black snow fall's to the ground.
    Roses die, leaving thorns.
Oh the huring heart, please no more!

    But thus the thunder roars.
    Making us realize our fate.
Loves a lost, you make only pain.

    Can't you see these tears?
    The scar's on my face?
Eye's once green now a saddened grey?

    You caused this,
    All this fear and harm.
    Your the reason I'm here.

The rain wouldn't burn my cheeks.
if it weren't for the smoke.
    I could smile then.

The colour of my eyes would stay green.
If these tree's weren't deforested away.
    The sparkle would be back.

The scar's, deep to my core.
gone they would if it wasn't for your greed.
I would let you take what you need.

    If only, oh if only
    You would clear my tears.
    Let me feel loved again.

Dear beloved, lost amoungst the sorrows.
Dear beloved, the pain I feel.
    Dear beloved, my acid rain.
Oh beloved, don't you love me today?
