Weekly Poetry Contest (177) - Looking Forward

Discussion in 'Monthly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Jan 2, 2012.

    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Seventy Seven

Let's kick 2012 off with a good, old-fashioned poetry contest!

    The Rules
    • All entries must be on the set theme.
    • Only one entry per member.
    • No editing of entries once posted without my express permission (i.e. PM me and ask).
    • Poems must be titled
    • Entries must not have previously posted on the forums, and are not permitted to be posted for critique until AFTER the contest is completed.
    • Any violation of these rules will result in disqualification of entries, and possibly infraction.

The entry stage will be open for fourteen days, closing on Monday 9th January 2012.

The voting stage will begin immediately, and will be open for three days, ending on Thursday 12th January 2012.

And this week's theme is: (courtesy of me) Looking Forward

The next (178th) contest's theme will be (courtesy of CMacgregor93): Controlling Relationship, and it will be opened on Monday 2nd January 2012.

Be imaginative, have fun, and get writing.

PS: If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. I don't bite (much).

    Making the Right Choice

    Looking forward,
    I see a line
    to which my
    whole life
    does define.

    Looking back,
    I see you sitting.
    I know I left
    just short
    of quitting.

    Forward is what
    holds my key. But
    proceeding alone
    has an impact
    on me.

Before you read this; I am not a mercyless killer :D Just thought I'd let you know.

    Beyond Bitter

    I stand by the door
    A smirk on my face
    I show no mercy
Like the rest of human race

    His eyes are fearful
    But he has no clue
    Lips stretching tighter
"Oh, what I've got in store for you"

    Gun behind my back
I have looked forward to this
    I reveal my gift
And this time I don't miss.

    To Whom

As I follow my shadow down such a shattered road,
And oh so quietly slow, see painfully what one needs to smile as one bleeds
Oh I wonder why one would wander such as me
And why, I ask an eyeless sky, is my bloody stride so sick yet so sublime?
When all around me and staring above me, and even the very street me feet do beat
Like one voice you scream to me to see how lonely I seem to be
Yet no, not yet shall I quiet my stride, crawl aside, submit and die
So centered I saunter upon the beaten path
And bloody as it is, is in itself, self evident
That my torn feet are not the first it’s seen
And though my eyes can’t see it
My very smirk can feel it
That no soulless sole, nor hoof, nor wheel has smoothed this road
But mere human feet much stronger than my own
And no one but I can see how far I go
For even now I feel the path begin to thin
The further I go the deeper it tears
And oh the rougher my skin grows
And who knows when tomorrow’s steps might lead my feet to beat my betters’ reach
And I alone step out and shred my feet on stones unbleed
For now the blood I bleed smoothes the road for younger feet
Who hopefully will see more clearly than myself the road ahead.
To sights beyond, which we have have yet to reach
The peace beyond to where there is no need to bleed
And a scarlet brick path cool beneath smooth soles
On which to arrive with an easy smile
For that final peace to be held so easily in all our minds
Is why I suppose one would wander such as I
Yet still it kills to know I bleed to learn and teach for truth and peace
While you entreat to me to submit to you and die
    Dear sirs, I must defy
By my blood you may be meld
But my soul you are denied

If it wasn't against council regulations I'd plant roses on your grave.
What better way to be alive than to be brought up

from below the sodden earth and unfurled, briefly, in the sunlight.
Because my memory fails when it tries for beauty.

I don't remember the tender moments, alone together,
sweet, so sweet. I just remember you naked at the piano

while I lay in bed drinking the coffee I never told you you burnt
and cringing at the Chopin I never told you you butchered.

But memory must suffice, and so I move on and look forward,
and I tell people that I loved a boy, and he was beautiful,

and we'll always have the Nocturne in E-flat Major.

    The Year Ahead

    frozen sand in situe
    before the tide
    thoughts contrive,
    -well'being tamed the sun
    burnt splendor.
    time un-done
    hung upon...days suface.
    night worth-less,
hold on and the change we'll see
    grain wet now.
    black sand beneath
    earth chords bellow
    slumber is near
    frozen sand in situe
    the burnt splendor this year.
