Even after all of these years, our contests are the best writing resources around.

    The Rules
    • All entries must be on the set theme.
    • Only one entry per member.
    • No editing of entries once posted without my express permission (i.e. PM me and ask).
    • Poems must be titled
    • Entries must not have previously posted on the forums, and are not permitted to be posted for critique until AFTER the contest is completed.
    • Any violation of these rules will result in disqualification of entries, and possibly infraction.

The entry stage will be open for seven days, closing on Monday 18th February 2013.

The voting stage will begin immediately and will be open for three days, ending on Thursday 21st February 2013.

And this week's theme is: (courtesy of Spiderfingers) Cerberus

The next (227th) contest's theme will be (courtesy of Darkkin): Old Man Winter and it will be opened on Monday 18th February 2013.

Be imaginative, have fun, and get writing.

    In Hades dank depths,
    On stalactite shores,
    Where the river laps,
    The hands of scores
    Of countless damned
    Pound the ground
    Below where Cerberus sits.

No dog of war let loose, is he,
A chaining beast, to guard the free
He paws and maws the souls of men,
Cast low from the mighty Zeus.

    Heel, mongrel mutt and muster!
To the black side of your master,
The caster of fates beyond the door,
    Lay monster at his feet,
Until I too pass down the waters,
    Then let me peacefully beyond
    You mighty Cerberus beast.

    Three Heads, One Heart

    He was the guard…
    The embodiment of Hell
    These three heads,
    That inside one dwell.

    He can be Hades,
    The breeze of Persephone,
    Going from Venus to Mars
    Right in front of me.

    Changing faster than
    Tidal movements of the sea
This great beast of a man,
    Snarling and snapping at me.

It would be a Herculean task
    To change you...to choose....
    Which heads to sever?
    Feeling either way I lose.

    Call Off Your Hellhound

    Call off your hellhound
    of many snapping jaws.
    Play a fair game, abide
    by the living world's laws.

You know that I am just one man
so fight me one on one.
If I must face both you and them
I'll have no choice but to run.

    Call off your snarling hellhound
    with all its angry eyes.
If I must be torn apart let you
alone cut me down to size.
