What happened to the choice for 'naughty' stories sub-forum?? :(

Oh, I agree. That was part and parcel of Thirdwind's post which I quoted in my response. It seems it's here to stay, and be that the case, then it needs to handled correctly. We have enriched uranium in the U.S., but we don't let people keep it in their living rooms. ;)

If there was an option on the poll for a debate section, I would probably say that but no such luck. Anyway, thats what I want. And perhaps, you can expand the roleplay forum to include subsections for OC, OOC, IC etc. I'm confused where to place my RPG character profile threads. Those would be my suggestions, thankyou!

Hey @Low, RP Mod chiming in here.

Unlike many traditional RP forums ours has no persistent games and so no dedicated section for player profiles. Instead, we have a main forum for game threads and 'in character' content (IC) and a sub forum for discussion threads of games where we make our 'out of character' (OOC) posts. Character profiles are posted in either the first few posts of the game thread, after the rules and before the in character content starts, or in the discussion thread. The GM defines where he/she wants them in the first game post, along with the rules and such.

To keep things tidy, we limit open and general discussion to our 'RP General Chat' thread, and give each game a dedicated thread for out of character discussion. Instead of Open Call (OC) threads we have a 'RP Kickstarter', where you can solicit players before going live with your game.

Everyone is welcome to check out our 'RP Welcome and Rules' if they want to learn more, or to jump into the 'RP General Chat' if they have more questions. You are even welcome to PM (now called 'start a conversation') me directly and I'd be glad to help however I can. :)

That was in this thread. Vote was 20 for, 8 against. Right now I think I'll probably add it.

I'd consider a vote for a politics/religion/philosophy sub-forum the same as a debate - not sure what we'd actually name the forum. As for the RP section, I don't venture there myself, but if the members there wanted to expand to include those sections I'd be happy to add those sections.

You're welcome. Was going to add Erotica as well, but at the moment there's an issue with age-lock.

I rather like that. :) I'm partial to things with an old timey sound.

Me too! :D There are certain things that just don't have the same charm or elegance as their old timey counterparts.

How about The Courthouse (or Courtroom)

    or like... The Academy

You know, think about people seated in different sections of a big room where everyone speaks their mind about an issue respectfully, more or less. In the grand scheme of things, we're there to learn.

The Cage lol.. Anyway, my suggestion for a name for that particular section would be The Belly, or Underside.

So when can we expect to see this debate/politics subforum?

Found some interesting propositions for new sub-forums, especially the e-books and self-publishing forums, and voted for them.

While I'm not rabidly opposed to a debate/politics/philosophy forum, I do wonder if there isn't already a lot of this kind of thing creeping in, via the general Lounge. I'm not opposed to exchanging views on non-writing issues, but that's not why I joined the forum. If these topics influence what we are writing, fair enough. But surely there are other forums to directly debate current affairs, etc.

At least with a separate forum I suppose we can keep these issues out of all the discussions. So I'm not going to march off in a huff if people actually want this thing. But I don't. And that's how I voted.

Also added Autobiography & Memoir under non-fiction (and changed "Humor" to "Humor & Satire" a while back).

In regards to the Erotica forum. The age-restriction issue: turns out I can restrict viewing the actual threads by age, but not the actual forum.

Do you guys think this is an issue? Members under the age limit will be able to see the forum on the homepage and the thread titles... I've enabled it for now at age 17, but i you guys think we should wait until I can find a way to hide at least thread titles I'll remove it.

I like the idea of either something that conveys "enter at your own risk" or that it's for "collective intellectual learning" rather than arguing for the sake of arguing.

Once we can find and settle on a name I'll probably add it.

A few other ideas: The Roundtable, The Debate Room, Intellectual Inquiry.

Actually, I already added these a week or two ago: Self-Publishing Forum, Electronic Publishing Forum.

Personally I would like to expand the publishing section further to include forums for discussing agents/edits, blogging/online publishing, and book marketing/promotion. I think it's a little premature presently though, and I'm not sure if there's enough interest.

We'd be adding it mostly because they're "creeping in" to the Lounge, that way it's all in one place. This way people who want to can avoid it. I understand where you're coming from though.

How about we ensure the thread title is whistle clean? Then that's all minors will see...

I'm also considering adding a new "Open Government" forum where I can get feedback on new forum ideas, the community can vote on policies, etc. Right now that sort of happens in the Suggestions & Feedback forum, and to a lesser extent in the private Supporter and Staff forums. As WF grows I'd like to make sure I take it into the direction that the community wants. Thoughts?

That might be a good compromise until I can develop a way to hide thread titles. I'm not really familiar with Erotica titles, but I suspect they might be something that generally we should avoid minors from reading.

If writers can't find a way to disguise a particular word in a thread title maybe they shouldn't be given a key either :)

Agreed. I'll post a sticky in the forum now to make that clear. @Daniel, is there a way to have prefixes particular to that sub-forum?

    Oh, and THANK YOU!!! :D

    Awesome, thanks.

Just to be clear if anyone's concerned, in time I will find a way to hide the thread titles completely, then title censorship will be a non-issue.

AS for prefixes, absolutely. What'd you have in mind?

For now: Straight, Gay, Bi, Trans, Mixed. Another forum I frequent for this kind of writing uses that system and a few others, but I think that for now.
