What Ails the Short Story by Stephen King

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by TWErvin2, Oct 1, 2007.

    Writing Forums Folks,

Here's a NY Times article where Stephen King discusses the current status of the American short story and its future:

    What Ails the Short Story

Interesting, but maybe not a lot unexpected to those who write short stories.

Hey Terry thanks for posting that link hey. It is the most interesting article that I have read for quite some time now.
You are write though it is not totally unexpected. I will have to read over it again later on again as my children are awake so it is hard to concentrate.

He is right about the book stores though. They always seem to put the best sellers at the front then the other crap about money making schemes and so forth. The magazines are at times good for a read, but I would rather hunt around and book store that sells older books as you find far more interesting reads in my opinion.

Good article. I'm bookmarking it so that I can read it later and properly digest it.

He knows how to entertain readeres while stil getting his point across. I haven't come across too many writers that can do that.
