Want to make a pretty long series of books, and always looking to make satirical pieces in different settings. Currently, plan on writing novels that take place in present-day Boston, Intergalactic space, Hell, Colonial Boston, and a post-apocalyptic present-day Boston (the story allows for all of these). Hmm, what could happen to my hero that brings him to a different setting?
He is obsessively driven to make something wrong right again and/or save him/herself + his/her love interest from dying in the hands of villain? I know this has never been used in books, movies or tv-programs. (Except...)
It depends on the genre and what language the book is in. A sizable chunk of American literture takes place in the middle of the sticks, or a small town. The setting lends itself well to a story since everybody already knows each other and there's always a good excuse to get characters to interact. You might not want that for an action story though. A large scale, cross-country adeventure is usually necessitated by a Bond style villain. They have a lot of resources, minions, and reach. They'll often be holding something hostage, which ups the tension. That can be a person, or a thing, or the entire world.
perhaps your character could purchase an old television set or antique radio from an estate sale. and then it turns out that the device is a medium for transportation into other worlds based on what type of program is being broadcast
Most things seem to be written in America when it makes no difference what country the story is set in.
