No breakfast for me as I just can't stomach food at 6 am Diner is crumpets Tea is chicken casserole. The dog has lamb casserole but usually manages to finishes off mine as well. I don't do set meal times, I just eat when I get the urge so it's usually from 9:30 on wards. I'm what they call a "light eater" - as soon as it gets light I start eating.
I can’t in all honesty but I have to force it otherwise I’ll have to wait till the mid-morning brew time at 10 and there’s always a chance I’ll go into a hypo if I wait that long.
Just heard Joey in Friends refer to ‘dirty rice’. I was intrigued and looked it up, and now I’m desperate for some. There’s something similar you can get here at the Chinese takeaway, but I forget what it’s called and I don’t know if they’re the same.
I love dirty rice, had it from... Popeye's Chicken maybe? Then read up on how to cook it at home. The Chinese version will be called "fried rice" unless they use the Chinese name, which I don't know off-hand. The Wikipedia article has a ton of regional names for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_rice
No, fried rice - at least here in the UK - is just rice, fried in a pan. Or you can have egg fried rice which is the same but with a beaten egg thrown in. But most takeaways do a ‘special’ rice that has beaten egg, chives, chopped onion and chunks of pork. It’s all thrown in a wok and fried. This sounds very much like dirty rice but like I say I don’t know what it’s called. ETA: Char Sui fried rice.
Both fried rice (chinese american version) and dirty rice (Louisiana creole) contain white rice, meat, and veggies in various combinations, but fried rice is a soy and 5 spice base while the dirty uses a southern cajun set. It's all in the spices.
I make my Cajun rice with lentils! It's one of my favorite things to make. My last batch of Cajun powder was a tad on the too spicy side, but my hand slipped with the cayenne. It's in my top five favorite seasonings/flavors/cuisines. I've yet to try blackened tofu, but that's because my electric stove top is very uneven while heating so I have to be careful or I smoke myself out of the house.
I made a Korean style marinade chicken that I then stir fried with broccoli, garlic, onion, and peanuts. All over white rice. It was a nice meal and a good little experiment in marinading. And I will happily not be cooking for a week, so that will be nice! All the free food when visiting family!
That's been every other week for me the last few months. COVID shut down half the labs or put them at half staff, so 11-hour work weeks have been plaguing me as well...
Yay! I was starting to think I was the only person who hated chilli.. Any chilli is bad enough but chilli con carne and those red kidney beans... I’d rather starve!
I'll be making some zucchini spirals with ground beef and tomato sauce (Zucchini spaghetti, I guess is what it is) for dinner tonight. Gotta eat up the last of my zucchini, so why not?
I made hamburger stew. Cut up potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes (free from Dad's garden), onion Fried hamburger Tossed it all in a crock pot to cook. Flour, cheese last. More than enough to live off for a week.
Pasta with beet sauce, feta, fennel & mint! So light and a great way to use all the beets I get from the farmers market.
Made a couple of cheddar Johnsonville cheddar brats for lunch at home today. Tonight, I'm back at the supper blub for my plate of french fries.
Puddin' chips'n gravy. Although not cooking, buying, and I'm not going to even try and explain what this is to our transatlantic members.
Made an alfredo sauce with cashews for some fettuccine, and I've got rye bread in the oven. Made chicken salad with soy curls earlier for my lunches this week.
