I just realized that the books I had to read in middle school were...kind of messed up. "Where The Red Fern Grows" -- Dogs die. One gets mutilated by a mountain lion and the other basically dies of a broken heart. "Bridge to Terebithia" -- The girl drowns. And that's not all, the other Classical Literature I could've read had these juicy things: "Grapes of Wrath" -- Grandpa gets poisoned and his wife dies of a broken heart. "Of Mice and Men" -- Lenny gets shot by George as a sort of 'mercy kill' because they're on the run from seedy folks, and George worried how Lenny would be treated due to his mental disability (Hey, I didn't write the book -- blame the guy who did!) To be fair, Lenny *did* kill Curley's wife by mistake... ----------------------- If I ever write a coming of age story aimed toward middle-schoolers, this is what I'm going to do: Tim drew out several syringes with a strange orange liquid inside them. "What are they?" Lily gasped. "Tim! We can't do drugs!" "They're not drugs," Tim said. "They're from our Author. Plot-Device syringers, I think he called them." Lily wrinkled her nose. "Why?" "Because he knows what happens in books like this. One of us dies, or that dog there," he indicated the mutt sniffing at a pile of leaves, "dies." And the end? The author himself dies by sacrificing himself to save the main characters from a very deadly threat, telling them that they did good, and he'll take it from there.
I mentioned this a while back in another thread, but so was The Red Pony. I won't say what happens, but it was so bad that after reading the chapter, the majority of students in my 7th grade English class refused to read any further and waged a protest by sitting there with our arms folded and the book closed and refusing to speak. After a couple of weeks of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays of this our teacher let us officially abandon it and chose another book. In hindsight, she was probably panicked as to how she was going to explain failing so many students because studying the "spotlight" novel was such a huge part of our semester grade.
I mean I`d buy the book. Settling down for the evening and unwinding. Today wasn`t quite what I wanted it to be but can`t let my anxiety let me get wrapped up in that. Today was good and tomorrow should be even better when things get going. For now i`m just preparing to settle in for the night. Nice hot cup of tea, surfing the web probably gonna pick something to wacth as I fall asleep soon.
Having lunch and waiting for the furnace guy to arrive for its annual service. Hopefully, I'll be able to use it tonight.
Doing the odd assignments that come in, writing, but mostly surfing the internet. Oh, and trying to post here more than I had in months. :O
Spent the morning watching Shirley MacLaine masturbate on the big screen. Spoiler: No, really The local cinema chain runs weekday matinées of classic films at a discounted ticket price. I had the morning free and Being There is running this week, so I went to see it. Amazing film, and allegedly the inspiration for the Simpsons episode in which Ralph Wiggum runs for President.
That looks like fun - Chauncey Gardiner... I've just clicked into one of those spam mails from big mags - where they publish the winner from some competition. This one was the Masters Review. The story is set in a boarding school - written in plural 1st person, nnnh...I got about a quarter of a way into it...nnnh...I'll go back, it's hard work [for me].

Writing the introduce of a new villain, who has just been awaken after 10k+ years of cryosleep. Not quite the same as the others of his kind, who are considered peaceful.
Reading an article about Hearst killing Maxilmillion Porter and Alex French's expose about director Brian Singer's sexual misconduct. (It was intended for Esquire but Hearst execs killed it. The Atlantic published it this morning.)
Doing everything but working on my book today. Every time I sit down to focus oh, I end up doing something else after a while. Then that makes me feel somewhat better, is I spent the entire day yesterday working on it. I got a self-imposed deadline to meet oh, and a bit more to work on
