It might seem weird for someone who is such a big fan of the fantasy genre but I've never read The Lord of the Rings. I usually catch flak for having read The Hobbit many times over. I guess it's considered something of a children's book when compared to Tolkien's other work and some people get all uppity about it as if I've committed some horrible slight against the genre. Whenever I've tried reading The Lord of the Rings, I felt like I was reading a history book rather than a character driven story and I'd get bored.

I like them both but I would recommend Animal Farm over 1984. That's just me.

It would be easier for me to answer if the question was what classic book have you read?

I've not read many of the Russian books famous in English speaking countries, I've only read Crime and Punishment. I've read no French writer, except Camus and Sartre either, and Don Quixote is still on my to read pile.

    Seems a shame really.

I have this issue as well. Not even a single Russian writer on my shelf.

I've only read those two French writers as well, with the addition of Jaques Derrida.

I need to get a bit more international, though I'm doing rather well with Latin literature.

I struggle with most English writers.

That's cool! Latin as in the Romans or Latin as in Latin America?

Latin America. I dont think I've read too much on the Roman side.

That's cool. :) I've got One Hundred years of Solitude next on my 'to read' pile.
