Are you kidding? I am such a slow, scattered reader...and my to-read list is enormous. I don't have time for re-reads. I wish I did.
I'm the exact same way. I only read a book once if I don't like it, or only feel lukewarm to mildly pleasant about it.
^'Xactly. (How often do you type a capital x?) 'Sides, I devour books, which is not a good thing because I end up missing entire paragraphs and forget other bits. If I want to get the whole book, I either have to make myself read slowly or just take it twice.
The second time around is usually when you can get the finer details. I'm the same as you--I devour books and then read them twice to get it all. I've reread Gone with the Wind a lot.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (I am currently reading it for the second time and will read the second book in the series again when I finished with this one then there is a third book to come) The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver. Wolf Brother (Five Times) Spirit Walker (Four Times) Soul Eater (Four Times) Outcast (Three Times) Oath Breaker (Twice) Ghost Hunter (Once) Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling (I have no idea how many times I have read each book) House of Night Series by P.C and Kristain Cast Marked Betrayed Chosen Untamed Hunted Tempted (There will be twelve books in the series but so far only those six have come out and I have read each one twice) Lionboy by Zizou Corder (I have read this twice but have only read both The Chase and The Truth once) Vampirates Tide of Terror by Justin Somper (I have read this twice but never read any of the others) There are others that I can't remember.
The Stand (Stephen King) 3 times. The Dead Zone (Stephen King) twice. Everything by H.P. Lovecraft at least twice. The Tell Tale Heart (E.A. Poe) 3 times. The Pit and the Pendulum (E.A. Poe) twice. Catcher in the Rye (J.D. Salinger) twice, will read again. Shadowland (Peter Straub) Cat's Cradle (Kurt Vonnegut) twice, will read again. There are more, but I'd have to really search my memory.
My most recent telephone bill. I couldn't believe it the first time, but I picked myself off the floor and tried again.
I actually saw the movie first, and that had me go looking for the book. And it's strange how some recent books, have already that age-old feeling.. The road is another example that springs to mind.
Well, the question for me would be what book haven't I read twice. My college text books come to mind . . . Really, if I enjoy a book (and I do tend to find things to enjoy even in books that I hate, even if it's to enjoy hating the book), I will read them over and over, not necessarily from the start to end but bits and pieces I like.
I have read the Harry Potter books quite a few times now and I'm planning to read them again in the not so distant future. They are good easy reading that get you drawn into the magical world. I love to read my V.C. Andrews books alot too.
A Song of Ice and Fire and Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin - Have read them all twice now. The Dark Elf Trilogy and The Icewind Dale Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore - Read these a couple times and I've probably read Homeland 4 or 5 times. The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury - Both many times. The Fionovar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay - Read these twice. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis - I have read this series annually since I was in first grade. Shame about the awful Disney movies. Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, Miracles, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis - Probably several times each. The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins - Twice. Once for curiosity, once for sheer hilarity. Tilly by Frank Peretti - A beautiful albeit sad story, read it several times. I suppose there are many, many more.
^ I loved the Chronicles of Narnia, and I've reread them all too. I've reread Airhead by Meg Cabot as well. Fun read.
Pretty much have read almost every book on my shelf a few times. Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire (still haven't read Feast for Crows yet haha), Trudi Carnavan's Dark Magician trilogy, Narnia, His Dark Materials... Stardust.... I somehow just like going back to books to savour what I enjoyed about them. Perhaps I didn't do a full re-read, per se, but more of reading the bits I liked a lot. I have read the ending of Amber Spyglass a lot simply due to the interesting craft of writing employed.
