Okay but now stupid question 2 where do I post critiques? Is it in the forum or somewhere else? Sorry treat is why I have not done one yet. I am not trying to use my ADHD as a crutch but I do have difficulty focusing, and I do not know my full official diagnosis as I have never been through a complete analysis of my diagnosis.
Okay, unless I remembered wrong, I thought I posted two critiques before my temp ban. What and how can I do critiques that matter?
Browse through the Workshop. Pick any story, poem or novel excerpt that catches your eye ...particularly a relatively recent one. Tell the writer what you think about it AND WHY. It's not a vote: I like it/I don't like it. You need to get to the bottom of why you like it or don't like it. Think in terms of your own work. What kind of response would YOU like to get if you posted your work? And do the same for other people. You don't have to be an expert, and you don't have to know how to 'fix' any issues you find. Your job as a critique-giver is to point out any issues that are praiseworthy, and also point out any issues you think are detrimental to the story or poem. That's it, basically. Concentrate on being genuinely helpful and you'll be fine. If you can't think of anything to say about a piece, just move on until you find one that 'works' for you.
Keep in mind - if someone posts an in-depth critique of my work, I will try to respond in kind. Likewise, if they post a two-line or a one-paragraph critique, that's what they get from me in return. And I imagine a lot of people on this forum are the same.
