Feet pointed in the same direction, opposite hand on the ground for balance. I google'd "sitting on side" to find this image, but it is almost the only one of its kind on the list. I'm not sure if I said, "She sat on her side," that a reader would picture this. What do you think?
Corkscrew sitting? I genuinely have no idea. Is it important that the reader know how the character is sitting?
Not enough to spend many words on it, but I've always had a strong mental image of this particular scene, and would like to see if I can get it across.
Thread solved. This highly scientific article calls it "side saddle." https://www.littlethings.com/sitting-positions-personality-test/
I love that, like horoscopes, every possible way to sit has positive connotations. Nothing like "If you sit this way, it indicates you're a controlling asshat."
I would also consider that a sidesaddle pose. If you photoshopped a horse under her, she'd look comfrotable.
Does the exact way in which she sits matter? Usually it's just maybe "tucked her legs under her". You could add "to one side" for emphasis.
You simply can't describe someone sitting, "side-saddle" as the mental picture will be that of a woman riding a horse.
I agree. It's also too ugly of a sounding description to use where I'm using it, so I'm going with something else.
Yeah I'll pop in with if I heard 'sitting side-saddle' before reading this thread my reaction would have been ???? Tucked her legs under her would give me a mental image about like what that lady is sitting like.
