    I've confirmed with some of the writers, as well as a lawyer who was on one of the panels, that none of them are paid for it.

    I haven't conquered that mountain yet. Maybe I never will. I have so much to say—so many adventures to upload from my imagination—but translating them to the page always feels like I'm wrestling with an alligator.

    If I can give some unsolicited advice, you could try my way:

    Find three books by three different authors you admire and have already read.
    Reread the first chapter of each of them, paying attention to the words.
    Transcribe the first page and a random page from each of them.
    Outline your own chapter in fifty words or less and daydream a solid mental image of your character.
    Close the door and write.
