    Hi,

If you don't yet know what the story's about have you yet put finger to keyboard? Or are you hoping that the name is going to be the story?

I agree with the others. Use a placeholder name, and start trying to at least pen the story.

Max is always a good name in Sci Fi by the way, because it doesn't have to be short for Maxwell or Maximillion, - It can be short for maximum. Think Max Headroom.

But you can also get away with biblical names - Jean Baptiste Emmanual Zorg - from the Fifth Element.

    Cheers, Greg.

The James Bond stories have a strong sci-fi element, and "James Bond" was chosen specifically to sound ordinary. There's nothing unusual about the names James T. Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard, Jake Sully, Malcolm Reynolds and so on. Nowadays strange sounding "sci-fi" names are most likely to just sound silly and are probably best avoided unless it's a spoof.

    Mordecai Featherstonehaugh.
Costume: A solid gold top hat, a floor length leather coat with nothing underneath it, suede boots.

    Hope this helped.

Sometimes when I am trying to come up with an odd or unique name I use this method; just randomly clack some keys on the keyboard, just throw your hands down.

Ok that's what I came up with after doing that. It's not very usable as is. But you have something to work with now. Basically all you have to do now is add is some vowels.

    Cool eh?

    Max Power!

'There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Max Power way!'

    'What's the Max Power way?'

'It's the wrong way, but faster!'

I agree 1000% with Cognito. If you're asking everyone else for what to name this, what to dress that, then you need to step aside and let someone else write the book. As someone told me recently, writing is a solitary pursuit for a reason, and that is correct. I've made the same mistake before, thinking that more opinions the better, but what ends up happening is the blind leading the blind.

In a nutshell, you've got to be able to stand on your own to be able to make a real go of being a professional writer.

Lotti is a solid name, as far as the costume goes.... It really depends on the character his traits or qualities and what it is you want to say about him. Does he use a weapon? What kind of weapon? How would that affect costume decisions? These are all things you should dream up.

i think this is the best advice given on this thread so far. I'll admit I can some times struggle thinking of names for characters iI can have a character pretty much fully formed but still not be able to think of a name for them. I have on occasion used a name generator and gone through all the Christian names till I find one I like then go through all the surnames till I find one I think fits well with the Christian name. But as Cog said it's your story you should be using your own creativity
    and imagination

It is the best advice but sometimes it great to have a good old fashioned brain storming session just for fun and see what happens and make up some funny names lol. Some funny names coming up although might not be right for your story, sorry got to agree with Cogito and Steve. Besides you could insert the name after you finished or once your further in, i just put John or Jane Dole in till im happy with a name.

Reinhard Sexsmith is just a good name for anything, anywhere.

But it doesn't really matter. Name your character anything, and they'll grow into it.

Owlman? I think that would be pretty awesome. You know- a whooing hero who fights with his talcons of death and states people down in 9 o clock at night- yeah, that's a pretty awesome sc-fi hero.

Not to be confused with Alan Moore's Nite Owl, of course.
