Well obviously sometime between Friday and today, because I can see a thread he started then in this room. Maybe I should ask, for what was he banned?
The final act that invoked his banning- because there was a pattern of prior behavior - is explained in this thread.
I'm reminded of a line from a Don Marquis poem, we dropped freddy off the fire escape into the alley with military honors
Personally, I was actually permanently banned once before on another forum, so these things hold particular interest to me along with a bit of sadness, and I always want to know every detail to make sure it was just, even though that's rather pointless. In hindsight, I am glad I was banned because that led me to join this forum, and I enjoy it over here much more. On the flip side, I think I've become paranoid that I will be banned. I even had a nightmare about it. Whenever it takes a little longer to load, I immediately think "What have I done? Think! Augh!" Then, it loads and I feel better!
It sucks, because I'm 6 frames deep on a pencil test of his avatar getting sodomized by...well something I'm not sure of yet. It's big and gray right now. Now who am I going to show it to?
Be aware that he wasn't banned only for the deliberate misquotes. They were the last straw. He'd been warned in the Bronies thread (I just reopened that, by the way) and infracted twice in the week before his banning. He was unable to take the hint. He continued his crossing-the-line ways and now he's gone. It couldn't have been a surprise to him.
I just looked up the rules again, did he really have 10 infractions... ...That's actually not my business. But I guess it wouldn't surprise me if he did.
No, he didn't. But the number of points is not the same as the number of infractions. By far the most infractions are only one point (unless we're dealing with an obvious spammer), but mods can assign more than one point to an infraction if it happens to be particularly egregious.
...and he switched gears at a point and decided he was going to just start fuquing with us, and Marsellus Wallace don't like to get fuqued by anybody except Mrs. Wallace. People are allowed to be rough around the edges. People are allowed to have a bad day. People are allowed to bump heads and occasionally cross lines. People are not allowed to just continuously fuck with other people for the fun of it. That's trolling.
@Wreybies is right. Tempers can run high in a given thread and maybe members might say things they wish they hadn't in the cold light of morning. One thing MLM did was take a fight from one thread into another - not good. And, as Wrey pointed out, he had a pattern of fucking with people, and usually for no reason. He just seemed to want to be a shit-disturber. It wasn't one argument, it wasn't one bad day, it wasn't just a rare instance of crossing lines. It was a consistent pattern of bad behavior in many threads over a long period of time. That's just not cool.
Trolling with strangers is a lot like making love. You can't just rush into it. You got to take it slow and ease out every so often.
I'm really not comfortable with discussing details of another member's behavior, even if it did result in banishment. Isn't this something that should remain within Admin and not general/public disclosure? It's really nobody else's business, is it?
I think it serves a purpose on rare occasions such as this. Members often wonder why someone got banned. We're hoping that if we say a couple of things here, others can see what causes a banning and can avoid that kind of thing. We don't want to ban people, but we do want people to be aware that bannings can be the result of more than one post; they can be the result of a consistent pattern of behavior. You're right - we've talked about it enough.
The posts that got people banned were public were they not? I don't see this as talking behind anyone's back. On the other hand, I try not to answer posts of banned members that they then have no option of rebutting should that be an issue.
