I love the Chronicles of Narnia. (I wish they'd never made Disney's movies of it-they're godawful) I have read it anually since I was in first grade. More recently, I read his Space Trilogy. I'm afraid there's no veiling there, it's flat out 'in your face' and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hey now, I happen to think Skandar Keynes is awesome!! Plus that's an awesome name! Skandar Keynes. It sounds so cool.
Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams are the only two authors whom I have actually been able to detect a real sense of style with. It's that slightly detached, sardonic amusement that makes everything that happens ten times funnier. God love the English.
I would like to be able to write like David Nicholls, Audrey Niffenegger, or JK Rowling (purely for the amount of detail and background she uses).
Absolute yes to JKR. She has such incredible detail, and the movies are done brilliantly IMO. HP6 was the best one yet. I saw that movie 3 times and cried every time at the beginning and the end.
Stephen King - hands down. I love the way that man flows when he words things. Oh, and Lovecraft might not be too shabby, either!
I'm nearly finished with Atonement, and I'm very impressed with Ian McEwan. I love the whole central idea of the book, how one day can change your life forever.
I love him too, although some of his early stuff is a bit weird. When I was little I wanted to be Jean Plaidy.
id love to just be able to write well enough to be successful and be able to write as a career lol that would be perfect lol heres to dreaming
I would just love to write... something, I don't care who it's like, I don't care how good or bad it is, I just want to work on my project. But I can never find the time, between work, kids, house work blah, blah, blah. Sigh.
