Congratulations! @Night Herald you've won! @Wreybies will be a long to grant your medal.

With that being said, you can check out @Night Herald's poem below:

    The War Without End

There stand stalwart men of polished stone
    whose courage does not bend.
Here come rampant men of carven bone
    whose fury knows no end.

The Black King's edicts are portents of thunder.
Knights and priest echo his will down the line:
    Stone does not give!
    Stone does not break!
    Go where you are told,
    die where you stand,
lock your shields and hold the line.
    Heed your king's command!

Brave are the men of stone,
    but fearless are the soldiering dead;
for bones are the relics of life that is fled.
    Stone ranks yield,
    the field drinks their blood,
    shattered stone is seeded deep.
The Pale King reaps his harvest
    while stone widows weep.

    A stone castle crumbling,
    a dying king stumbling,
    a black stone crown tumbling.
A kingdom has fallen but rises again.
    The Pale King has triumphed,
but the price has been steep.

    The board is swept clean,
    the world is no more.

Well, this is a surprise! I thought the whole thing concluded weeks ago, and I kind of forgot about it. Guess the holidays got in the way a bit.

    So, uhm, thanks!

Congratulations @Night Herald for your first poetry medal and proving that you’re just as good as poetry as you are at writing flash fiction.

I liked quite a few poems in this contest but also enjoyed how people translated the “chess” theme as a metaphor for the battlefield. I voted for @Dolphin laughter ’s Gamechanger because I thought there was some kind of revolutionary message in the one and Pawn Forward by @zoupskim for this cute and simple haiku, simply enjoying the game as it is played.

Queen’s Gambit Accepted by @exweedfarmer and Chess Lovers by @Artifacs is also worth a mention. I liked how Chess Lovers entwined the theme with love and I also liked how Queen’s Gambit Accepted captured the psychological mind when playing the game (and the rhyming couplets were pretty effective).

It was a good contest overall and quite a few stunners too! Like @Night Herald’s poem, leaves much to the imagination!!

Congratulations to everyone who took part :D

Oh, I don't know about all that ... I'm just dipping my toes in the form, as it were. But thanks! That's really good to hear.
