    "wordiness"

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Punctuate THIS!, Oct 8, 2009.

Infrequently, my computer will accuse me of "wordiness." It only happens about in 1/50 sentences overall. The stones get thrown the most when I use "so as to" instead of just "to."

Is this really such a horrable sin?

yes, it is a 'horrable' (sic) sin, imo!

and it's probably the most oft-committed sin among the thousands of new writers i've mentored and helped over the years...

It is also a sin of many old and revered writers, especially when their book sales reach the point that publishers will aqccept whatever they submit wothout editing.

I praise the editor who made Stephen King sborten The Stand to it's original published version. Unfortunately, Mr. King felt the public deserved the full version, like a repeat offender deserves a longer incarceration.
