Hi all, I have been working on the cover artwork for my WIP. The novel is about a covert military laboratory that practices gene splicing in order to militarise animals. My MC escapes with one such animal and reeks havoc on small town England. I wanted some advice on the artwork, and whether it would sell the novel to you. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Love the tiger and the weirdness of the image. The guy giving the finger doesn't fit. And the smiling crowd makes no sense either. Keep the tiger, work on the rest.
It is a tiger, that has been spliced with elephant size-genes, shark mouth-genes. I am not sure if it has also been spliced with monkey-arm genes, or whether these were just sewn onto his shoulders. He is also carrying a cleaver, so it will have had to have had the ability to use cleavers injected into its brain. I haven't finalised the science behind this yet, but essentially the story begins in a laboratory where, for example, the shark mouth-genes are identified and rubbed over a tiger foetus. I wasn't happy with the guy giving the finger either, it lacks any subtlety. And the sense of sheer terror doesn't quite come across on the crowd.
Dude, all you did was Photoshop Casper Van Dien out of the picture. This was totally a Syfy Channel original movie.
The picture has the wrong dimensions for a book cover? It does not sell the story to me. You don't tend to get photo realism in book covers. They tend to be artistic representations instead.
I'm just working on the title now. I want it to be something, short, sharp and to the point. I always liked the way Scream worked as a title on those Wes Craven movies; and thought I might just shamelessly rip off the idea with Aaargh!: The Moonstone of Elyrioth Saga : Ten-Thousand Stars in a Sky Full of Cloud: Book I.
Ta Da: I would like to thank you all for your help in getting me to, what I consider to be, quite an effective cover. I hope that being able to witness this process in action will help others in creating the book covers of their dreams.
This is a wind-up, isn't it? It's one of the worst covers I've ever seen... but then you knew that, didn't you?
I'm not taking the bait I will say congratulations, though. This has been one of the more imaginative and fun trolls I've encountered.
The bee thing is not that far of a stretch when you consider cardinal fish et al and their mouth brooding skills.
Only consulting the wheel of animals? Might want to rent the wheel of disasters again. Also do not forget about them Tank Dogs.
