I just want to tell a simple story. Does this count? There once was a happy girl. She was happy all the time, because her mother told her to "always strive for happiness". One day, her parents went to work and never came home. She became so worried that she went out to search for them. She crossed many terrains and slept on the streets. One day, she met an evil pumpkin. The evil pumpkin told her that her parents were alive, and the evil pumpkin knew where to find them. The girl was told that she had to jump off a building to find her parents or search the whole planet by herself. The girl got on top of a building, preparing to jump. But then, she remembered her mother's words: "Always strive for happiness." Looking down, the girl just sensed fear. Then, the evil pumpkin came and tried to convince her that the parents were alive, and that the evil pumpkin knew the path to find them. As much as she wanted to believe the pumpkin, the girl said no. She was too scared to jump. The evil pumpkin couldn't force the girl to jump, and thus just became angry. The pumpkin became so angry that it exploded into a million pieces, and pumpkin juice was left everywhere. Afterwards, the girl went home.
It has a chronology of related events, so it is a story. "Simple" doesn't have as clear a set of criteria, but I think most people would agree that this narrative is simple. And you did tell it. Ergo, it satisfies the question asked, whether you have told a simple story. Beyond that, I don't know what you're really asking.
