I agree strongly with the person above me; people who can't do anything but follow along in another world with other people bother me. Then, in most fanfics, they'll create ONE good guy, and ONE bad guy, and the story revolves mostly around those characters while the characters from the fanfic go completely out of the character they were supposed to be in their original setting to become the two created characters' undying supporters. Its awful.
I really dislike how in zombie stories and a lot of fanfiction the authors will focus heavily on the weapons. And not all the weapons, but specifically the Desert Eagle, and the Katana. Both are good weapons, but they aren't the be all and end all that so many amature writers who've watched too much anime make them out to be. It gets so sickening after a while.
That in and of itself is what a fan fiction is. They destroy whatever other characters once were a part of the storys they base their fan fictions on and make thier own, poorly created characters with no back bones the lead part of the story. I used to do them, but it was simply because I was too bored or too blocked up to write anything worth writing. Fan fics are HORRIBLE!!!
I can't stand how female writers think they need to have ridiculous porno scenes in their books. Come on ladies! We can do better than that! Plus, I HATE Dean Koontz because he is a wanna - be Stephen King and I can't stand that. I've read three or four of Dean Koontz's books and they are all attempting to have the character development that King does so well.
I need a story to be about people and I need to like at least one of them. Sometimes I love to hate a villain and will read a story just to find out how he gets it in the end (That's always my assumption. Sometimes I'm surprised.) If I've read through a few pages of a story (or watched the beginning of a film) and I haven't found something to like about at least one of the characters then I am very unlikely to finish that story. The world is full of total assholes, I'm not going to waste my time reading about them.
Really? Wow. I know that Koontz and King have a similar writing style and subject, but I've found the two Koontz books I've read very enjoyable. Perhaps I was just lucky with my choice, but although there were similarities between the two authors, I thought that Koontz's writing was very good in it's own right. Ah, perhaps it's just me, but I would still advise you to take a look at Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. That was the first of his books I read, and it's very good (or at least I thought so ).
THANK. YOU. One of my friends is an anime/manga freak and he keeps showing me these stories he writes that are blatantly trying to copy them and I keep having to tell him I like them when really I want to burn them in a bonfire ;-;
Ivan, Why not try giving an honest, constructive critique? Either he will learn from the suggestions, or he will go elsewhere seeking blind praise.
--I really don't like first person narrative. I just find that when looking through the eyes of a 12 year old and hearing a description of the world in intricate detail is a little unrealistic. --Stories that drag on forever because it has too many plot lines (This is why i really haven't bothered with the Wheel of Time)(It may also be that my reading speed is very average) One cliche that I do enjoy is the death of a characters mentor so they can grow and become independant.
I really hate stupid main characters, especially if the reason behind it is so that the writer can explain everything to the smallest detail. Why create complex stories if you think your readers are idiots anyway. Blah. And if the main character is a teenagers too, I run as fast as I can and I don’t look back -.-‘ That too!
